Wegovy launched in the UK

It’s finally here! They say a proportion will be reserved for the NHS program which sounds sensible and that it will be available privately. Early days at 8 am on launch day but I can’t see it available anywhere yet. They also say it will be a limited and controlled launch so it may well be hard to get hold of and expensive I guess.

It is still a big step forward after a long wait.

Some information here from the government about Wegovy on the NHS and the pilot scheme for GPs to prescribe it (which doesn’t sound like it will happen very soon).

Just taken my first dose of Wegovy!

Straightforward so far. Collected today from boots

I wont be far behind you @OnAMidnightTrainToGeorgia - just had my text to say prescription is available for collection. Last saxenda dose tonight, then wegovy tomorrow.
Fingers crossed for minimal side effects.

SupremeCommanderServalan · 08/09/2023 18:55

Let us know how you get on please!

OnAMidnightTrainToGeorgia · 09/09/2023 14:54

Took first dose yesterday at 2pm

No side effects at all

After 6 hours I felt the familiar 'full' feeling.

That's all I have to report so far!

I have 20lbs to loose but with a Bmi of 25.8 I am only a bit overweight according to scale. Will any private online doc give me this?

Hi, I started Wegovy today (starting dose 0.25) I used Saxenda earlier in the year for around 4 months and lost around a stone. When I started Saxenda my appetite pretty much went within 24 hours, on reading the Wegovy info it says it can take weeks to work. Anyone clarify? ty

2kidsintow · 14/09/2023 22:04

Some people have appetite suppressant effects on low doses, although the low doses aren't supposed to be therapeutic doses. I found and still find that 0.5 is high enough for me to have limited appetite but no real side effects (apart from constipation!) When I went up to 0.75 - didn't want to jump straight up to 1mg - I had horrible sulphur burps for 2 days so I went back to 0.5.

I've lost over a stone but lost it v slowly but steadily and easily.

I know it's expensive so for that reason some people want speedy results. I'm not prepared to put up with nausea or sulphur burps to lose weight faster.

I need to check on the click situation in a few weeks time as I've got a 1mg weygovy pen from quickmeds this week that I want to use to dose either 0.5 or max 0.75.

Hi,

Can those who have started already tell me how they've found it? What has progress been like?

Just ordered today and looking forward to getting started. Need to lose weight for IVF next year and just unsure how long it could realistically take. Hoping for good results from it!
