The thought of losing 5 stone seems insurmountable

My title says it all. I have a disabled child and a hectic life. I think some hormone issues which the gp are being unsupportive of. I just feel I have a mountain to climb

The good news is that if you have quite a bit to lose, and your current habits are pretty terrible, then you will see some gratifying results fairly quickly if you turn your habits around.

Getting your steps up is great, and there's loads you can do indoors to get them in, but it's your eating that will make the biggest impact.

Egg, bacon and veg for breakfast this morning. I wish I had access to scales.

Anyone else want to join me on my journey?

My Dad died earlier this year and I've put on the 3 stone I lost last year. And the comfort eating has been anything but a comfort.

I've joined the lowcarbprogram.com and it's brilliant. My blood sugars are already so much better (type 2 diabetic). My diabetic nurse gave me a proverbial kick up the arse and I know I have to do better... as well as the 3 stone I need to lose (again), there's another 2 or 3 to add on but I'm taking it stone by stone. I've lost about 10lbs so far.

I am joining! Stuck to calories again yesterday! I love the suggestion of just having to lose a pound. All I have to do is…lose a pound. Makes it seem much more doable.

Earhell · 01/09/2023 22:56

@MillWood85 I'm sorry for your loss and that it's impacting your health. It sounds really tough.

I had an ok diet day today. We had a roast dinner and I deliberately had a smaller dinner. I've been sensible all day.

I'm planning on doing a daily weigh in

I've also taken the advice to switch to kilos to take the emotion out of it

I stuck to calories again. I need to figure out how to switch the scales to kilos but I think it’s a good idea!

Earhell · 02/09/2023 08:19

Mine is a little switch underneath.
I'm +0.2kg today which is probably the equivalent of a wee!

Just checking in. Nothing happening on the scales but I did have a huge dinner last night.
Yesterday I fasted until 11 and then had a piece of toast with one of the kids at school. We also have lunch provided but self serve. So I had a few (and i mean a few) potato wedges, one fish bite and some salad. I feel like it's good progress on what I'd usually eat. I also had some fruit in the afternoon.

I feel lucky we have food provided at work but it isn't without its issues.

Today I'll have one hot cross bun with the kids at 11. A small lunch again and some fruit.

Eating less, but mostly carbs won't help.

You need to make wiser choices. Protein and fiber are important.

For example, today I ate two hard boiled eggs (with salt) and some pickled onions at 10:30.

Lunch consisted of a large carrot salad with mustard and vinegar dressing, a chicken thigh and a couple of tablespoons of mashed potato. Dessert was a banana.

4pm snack was 1 teaspoon of chia and 1 teaspoon of flax seeds, mixed with hazelnut milk.

Dinner was a vegetable and chickpea curry with a couple of spoonfuls of rice.

Yesterday my snacks were the same, and I had a lunchtime green salad, with kidney beans, beetroot and green beans.

Dinner was beef adobo with stir fried vegetables (mostly cabbage).

I drank fruit tea and water.

The weight is coming off slowly and consistently, and I don't feel hungry.

@Earhell I just woke up thinking of you. Am preparing my food for the day. (I also work in a school, so find that having healthy option with me means I don't rely on school food). Being organized helps me to feel more in control. I don't like to eat early, and the dietician felt that by waiting until lunchtime, I was too hungry and would eat a big lunch. (I would often have seconds).
So we put this system in place.

Today I have two boiled eggs for my morning snack. Pickled gherkins (because I just love them).

Lunch will be minced beef fried with mushrooms, garlic, courgette, cabbage and a red pepper. Dressing is made with a little chilli oil, soy sauce and ginger.
Green salad with mustard and vinegar dressing. I will have a banana afterwards, if I am still hungry.

And at 4pm, my snack, as always is the hazelnut milk with chia and flax seeds. (It doesn't have to be hazelnut, you can use normal milk, I just hate cows milk).

I don't know about dinner yet. And I drink water (I like it with ice in, it just tastes better to me this way) and a fruit tea.

Maybe posting everything on here will help you in your food choices?

I hope that you have a good day!

You've got this, OP. 💪

I totally understand how you feel. I have lost 4.5 stone since 1st January.

It was too big a target to look at at first, so I dealt with it in half stone increments. Each time I hit a goal, I bought myself a little something, both as a reward and as a physical reminder of the achievement.

Personally I found it easiest to follow a mainly keto diet with a treat piece of toast at the weekend (bread is my weakness). I ate once a day and did a lot of low intensity exercise.

I know this approach isn't for everyone and I was incredibly lucky in having a lot of support. It really is doable though. I wish you all luck and am happy to answer any questions, should that be useful to you.
