Why can't I do this?

I'm approaching my birthday & looking back at photos of last year I was so unhappy with my weight & I was determined to do something about it. Here I am a year later & still the same. Fat & unhappy. I look in the mirror & don't recognise myself. I need to lose about 2 stone. I'm in my 50s & menopausal. I just can't find anything that works. I start off with great gusto, don't get any results & get disheartened. Please share what works for you.

No idea sorry but following! I'm the same!

I could have written your post so I can empathise hugely.
Something I'm going to try is the Glucose Goddess Method. I've been reading the book today and it looks completely do-able. Not a diet plan as such, more to do with glucose spikes but one of the benefits apparently is weight loss. Lots of other health benefits too. Nothing is off limits and there is no calorie counting. Obviously I haven't started it yet but I feel very positive that this could be what I've been looking for. Have a look at the reviews on Amazon.

I'll have a look at that book thanks. I've gained the weight over a few years so I know it's not coming off overnight but if I could just see some small progress that would help!

I'm reading Ultra Processed People at the moment and finding a lot of insights into why it's so hard to give up certain foods, and what you could do about it.
Might be worth looking at?

Same here . I lost 35lbs pre covid and it’s all nearly bsck on and everyday I say I start again . I have so many apps it’s scary . I was doing great with nutracheck a few weeks ago so might try that again . I’m 54 , very menopausal and can’t be filled . 🙈

I was the same as you, until I started Slimming World. I've lost 2 stone in six months, which I've been trying to do since I had a baby nearly four years ago. I finally feel like my old self again and I'm so happy.

I am 3 weeks in to high protein/fat low carb. Don't know if it is working yet but I'm not hungry and not craving the sweet things. The GP said it would work, so we'll see. Not weighing myself before I go back in around 4 weeks.

TeenDivided · 22/08/2023 19:54

Ps I'm a similar age to you OP

How did you approach your GP about this. I've never even seen my GP as I moved so have changed to a new practice. Would I just make an appointment to discuss my weight?

What have you tried in the past?

For fast results low carb or fasting should get you on track and give you the motivation to continue with a more reasonable diet that works for you.

Last year I lost my final stone in less than a month by strict fasting window of just 3 hours but eating a 2k+ menu of lower carb healthy foods.

This works really well for my body because I respond really badly to carbs and am an all day nibbler when I get the chance. It won't necessarily work for everyone.

Have you seen Michael mosley lose a stone in 21 days on C4? It's not an easy plan but shows that you can improve both your health and your weight.

I actually paid for a 30min private appointment (first time ever) as I wanted to talk to a GP who had time to hear my longish list of interconnected issues/concerns and then properly discuss a way through. It has been worth every penny, though I realise it isn't an option for everyone.

I was going to post separately about this but have you tried noom? It's really changed how I think about food. It's not a diet as such but more correcting your eating habits and helping make better choices. I've lost 14lbs in about 6 weeks and feel so much better for it. They offered a free two week trial and I lost 5lbs during that time so might be worth having a look.

The last time I lost weight, about 10 years ago, I did Scottish Slimmers which doesn't exist any more. I imagine it's a bit like Slimming World? Weekly weigh ins & Calorie Controlled meals. I have an active dog so I walk a lot but that's the extent of my exercise. I also tried hypnosis which helped me make better food choices. I tried a menopause specific high protein diet but found it very boring & therefore hard to follow. I didn't lose much weight on that which I found demoralising. I really can't bear being hungry & get terrible headaches if I am so I need something that won't cause that.
