Weight loss when not dieting - anyone else experienced this?

Sorry if initial post sounds cryptic but I would love to hear from others who have lost weight (when they weren't really trying to)

For context I have topped the scales at 17 stone plus (probably about a year ago).

Prior to that I fluctuated between 14 stone to 17 stone and was a signed up member of WW for a good three to four years. After initial loss with WW (about five years ago) I dipped in and out but didn't really commit one way or the other to a "plan"

I have recently (less than three months ago) had some personal issues (bereavement, house move etc...) that have meant that I haven't really had an appetite and I have been "on the go" 24/7.

I have without planning lost about three stone - I weigh myself fortnightly now. I have not adopted " a diet plan" and eat what I want though admit my appetite has shrunk.

I am now lower end of 13 stone with an almost reasonable BMI (compared to earlier ones)

My question is - has anyone else lost weight without "thinking about it" and how do I keep this up?

How do I do something that I was unconscious that I was doing in the first place?!

I really don't want to sign up to anything nor be complacent about what has happened as a result of a gruelling and emotional time but am genuinely confused about how I "maintain" this good pattern of behaviour.

Would love to hear from anyone who has had similar experiences - TIA

I think just don't think about it too much and continue being distracted and busy to snack mindlessly. Find other sources of relief and escape than food. Incorporate exercise in your life.

Is it definitely through lack of interest in eating? It's not diabetes? If not, then yes, just keep being busy and distracted and add on healthy living aspects.

It could be the effects of the big changes in your life. I lost a lot of weight naturally without trying after I broke up with my boyfriend of 2 years, and moved home when I was 21, all in the middle of uni exams. I wasn't paying attention at all, just had no appetite, my weight plummeted and the first I realised was when my jeans started falling down.

Thanks all - nothing medical to suggest weight loss but thanks for flagging it. I guess I just need to not think about it and keep doing the same - is a weird positive in odd times but I'll take it! And @ZickZack exact same for me with jeans falling down too.

The “best” weight loss I’ve had in my life was when my partner upped and left me for seemingly no reason and for the first time in adulthood I was in the “healthy” BMI range. The heartbreak diet is absolutely not one I’d recommend though as I was just very, very sad. I think perhaps all the personal things you have going on may be a factor.

(for fans of a happy ending, turns out he was at braking point with his mental health and after prioritising and working on himself in his own time we reunited 6 months later and are still going strong!)

You were topping 17 stone a year ago and are now close to 13 stone. Honestly, a four stone weight loss in a year without trying? That is a huge amount to lose without trying.
The weight loss itself is a medical symptom.
It could be down to life stresses or it could be diabetes or another health condition. The NHS recommendation is that you get it checked out just in case.

@MsLK14 - I do like a happy ending, thanks for sharing and agree that although still sad I am not restricting eating just eating less through boredom I think and moving more.

@Nuffaluff - thanks for concern and agree weight loss could be a medical term however I am in regular contact with GP because of unrelated condition and she has no concerns and recent bloods are all good. As I wasn't weighing regularly before it's hard to say if it has been a straight 4 stone loss or I was less when recent life changes occurred. I do find I am on the go a heck of a lot more and I like being active - which I guess is the added benefit of weight loss and hopefully I can maintain this.
