TBC Health referral?

I had to see the GP this week. Pretty much every time I see her no matter what the issue she talks about weight loss - I dont really like her approach overall, for example, she said the fact I did 1hr at pace walks 3 times a week was pointless, as is my swimming apparently. Completely disregards the fact I do it for mental health and just to keep myself active. Anyway. To shut her up I agreed for her to refer me to TBC Health as she said you can work with dieticians and therapists to deal with things like eating disorders (which I have). But all I seem to find online is talk of bariatric surgery and referral for the weight loss injections, neither of which I am interested in.
Has anyone ever used them for general diet advice?

I've not used them, but a number of years ago I got referred to a similar-sounding service and they were beyond useless - mostly because the only sessions they offered were during the daytime on weekdays, and I work full time.
The small amount of info I did glean from them was geared towards the kind of people who had no clue about nutrition (and we're talking the level of "vegetables are good gor you, can you name some vegetables"). It was patronising beyond belief; the assumption being anyone who's struggling to lose weight is jobless and thick.
What did help though, was a referral to the local council-run gym.
This offered 1-2-1 sessions with a PT as well as ways to measure progress beyond the scale and that didn't involve counting every calorie. As someone who's previously suffered with obsessive calorie counting, obsessive exercising and obsessively weighing myself this was really helpful.
The PTs helped me to work out my BMR to give me an idea of how much I should be eating to get sustains, healthy, weight loss and we looked at macros and what sort of percentages might help me to lose weight and gain muscle while also keeping hunger at bay, and we found sessions and exercises that supported this (weights, dancercise, yoga etc.). I lost 20kg in 12 months and dropped a couple of dress sizes while also getting much fitter.
So it depends. A referral can be brilliant or it can be useless. I'd recommend you try it and walk away if it's terrible.

Thank you - that is super helpful. I know how to read a nutrition label. I worry, as you said, its going to be a bit 'Cake and carrot, which one is healthy?'. My food issues are emotionally led, not from ignorance on healthy eating.
I will go back to the GP and ask for the gym referral. She was clearly a bit 'exercise is useless' where as I have found the best results I have ever had are when I am combining with fitness activities!
