Healthy breakfasts

Any suggestions for what I can eat for breakfast that's healthy, sweet-tasting and filling? I'm a bit bored with overnight oats and have started slipping back into my bagel with Nutella habit 🙈

I can't stomach eggs first thing so they're out and I don't want any white bread. When I was younger, I used to do a slice of whole meal with jam but I couldn't function on just that now!

Any ideas gratefully received. Thank you 😊

Greek yoghurt, honey, berries and seed mix. So filling and loads of textures. Could swap the honey for a drizzle of nutella if you fancied it

lillie23 · 25/07/2023 09:31

I have a small piece of toast with low fat spread plus frozen berries with 0% fat free Greek yoghurt.

Nuca · 25/07/2023 11:33

I have a bowl of yoghurt with strawberries and a handful of seeds/granola

Newgolddream70 · 25/07/2023 16:15

Thanks everyone. Seems yoghurt, berries, granola and seeds are the way to go!

Are you trying to lose weight? Granola and seeds can b b high in calories.

Newgolddream70 · 25/07/2023 16:32

Yes, I have a stone to shift. Presumably I can have all the above but it would have to be the right measurements/ratio to yoghurt?

I’d avoid granola if you’re wanting to lose weight. Can you make your own muesli and have with yoghurt and frozen berries.

Newgolddream70 · 25/07/2023 16:35

I've not made granola before but I can give it a go.

Sorry, I meant muesli!

Porridge/overnight oats with berries and a drizzle of honey? I like granola but when you take into account the added sugar, nuts and seeds etc the calories can really add up.

I also really like peanut butter (the ones that are 100% peanut, so no added oil, sugar or salt) on a slice of brown toast or rye bread - I find that really fills me up despite being quite a small amount of food as it's so nutrient-dense. Not sweet though (but you could have it with a coffee with sweetener!).

MagpiePi · 25/07/2023 16:49

Porridge with cinnamon and a heaped teaspoon of cocoa powder, mix the cocoa and cinnamon into the oats before you add the liquid, 2 minutes in the microwave. The cinnamon makes it a bit sweet but you could add a teaspoon of sugar or honey if you want it really sweet. You can wean yourself off sweet things if you want!

Deliciously Ella has some lovely recipes for baked oats that you might like.

lovesheart · 25/07/2023 19:39

I make homemade granola (tastes out of this world) with yoghurt. Usually have dried apples and pecans in it with cinnamon.

Or smoothies, I put in a drop of vanilla essence with fresh strawberries and whole milk for my strawberry milkshake ones. Or honey, Greek yoghurt and blueberries, with kale for more benefits (you don't taste the kale).

Or I make scrambled tofu, smashed avocado in a bagel.

I do have a treat on the weekend of fresh pastries. (They're frozen so like a fresh pastry out the oven) yum :3

Sometimes I make low fat pancakes with fresh fruit and yoghurt or banana with drizzle of honey or low sugar maple syrup

I've just got home and read all these amazing suggestions. Thank you very much 😊

Overnight Oats with Chia Seeds and Berries – You should have to take in your healthiest breakfast

wiltingflower · 01/08/2023 17:40

Porridge oats with chopped apple, cinnamon and a tiny bit of brown sugar. If in a rush and can't stove it I'll combine the last 3 together first in a bowl and microwave with a tiny bit of water then add it piping hot to microwaved oats (which were done in a separate bowl).

NancyJoan · 01/08/2023 17:45

I like oatcakes w peanut butter, or yog with nectarines and raspberries.

KissKissMollysLips · 01/08/2023 17:47

I put sliced peach into a ramekin, then on top add a mixture of oats, 1tsp vanilla essence, 1 tsp honey & 1 tsp runny peanut butter (mix it all together)…put on top of peaches and bake at 180 for 15 mins. Serve with Greek yoghurt & berries if you want a bit extra.

I love breakfast triangles when I want a filling, easy start to the day.

  • Wholewheat or corn tortillas
  • Avocado
  • Cream cheese (choose a high protein option)
  • Ham

Spread cream cheese over half the tortilla, then cut the radius. Fold to make a 3/4 shape and then put ham in. Fold to make a half shape and then spread avocado over the half. Fold to make a triangle.

You can them eat as is or I like to put it in the toaster to grill slightly.

Takes 5 minutes to make and keeps you going easily until lunch time. Approx 320-50 calories.

Follow an Instagram a lady called em the nutritionist.

She makes all kind of delicious breakfasts, cakes, oats, wraps etc.

The variety is great just for some inspiration.

I'm in the yogurt, berries camp but was also going to say you could get into smoothies and a scoop of protein powder, I add all kinds to mine, cacao powder, peanut butter, bananas, avocados.. berries I always have frozen fruit stocked up like mango, strawberries etc so I can whizz up a smoothie if I'm in a rush.

Icedlatteplease · 02/08/2023 07:21

I can't help but wonder if, assuming it fits with you calorie allowance and whatever else you are eating in a morning, you'd be better swapping the bagel for a bagel thin and keeping the Nutella.

Your diet can be the best diet in the world but if you don't keep to it its still shit.

Just make sure the rest of your diet covers the nutrition bases

LostInTheColonies · 02/08/2023 07:40

Berries, cottage cheese, cinnamon & a few almonds. Yum.

thenewaveragebear1983 · 02/08/2023 07:48

I do my overnight oats with 15g (1/4 serving) of chocolate protein powder added,,10g chia and mix with almond milk. Then I add frozen cherries, or if I’m doing a long run I add banana and peanut butter. It’s so delicious I have to limit it just to weekends..

PlaceYourHands · 02/08/2023 08:05

Aldi and Morrison's do a protein mousse in a big pot. Chocolate flavour is by far the best. I have that over grapes, strawberries and blueberries and it's absolutely delicious.

Newgolddream70 · 02/08/2023 21:57

Thanks for all these suggestions- brilliant! This week I've been having Greek yoghurt, fresh berries and Lizi's granola (weighed and calorie counted) and I've enjoyed it but these new ideas are great. Doing a shop tomorrow so this really helps 😊
