Best choice in Italian restaurant?

I'm back on the weight loss band wagon but have a meal out with friends to an Italian and I'm wondering what the best choice would be? Everything will be laden in olive oil. I'm vegetarian which means a lot of cheesy dishes. Would a pizza be best and I could just eat half?
I've got 6 weeks till my holiday so really dont want to ruin my losing streak!

Why dont you got for the spinach, lentils and borlotti beans as a main course, order all 3 as your main course

I liked the sound of the barlotti dish actually.

I wonder if they'd do mushroom pizza without cheese.

I'm fine not having a starter. I don't normally have one anyways.

I'd go for the estiva salad for super boring (and ask for dressing on the side) or the chickpea pasta.

If you want a starter, minestrone soup would be good

When I was eating in restaurants I used to just order veggie side dishes (I eat meat and fish so would also have prawns) as my main course as I was low carbing rather than just focusing on cals

Anything bready or pasta would just get me craving badly and then then next week I would fall off the wagon so I avoided them

Our local Italian does spinach side, aubergine side, mushroom side, they're irresistible.

This is my concern, carbs just make me want to eat everything!!

@Clymene I'm vegetarian.
@Spudsanyway & @Jewelanemone so tomato pasta even if there's olive oil in it will be better than half a pizza?
I'm absolutely hopeless at working out what's best calories wise when eating out.

Ask for no oil...hopefully it's been made from scratch so they can do that! Side salad 🥗, no dressing. X

From the menu. Minestrone and the lentils dish

CoachBeardsJane · 20/07/2023 01:23

Can you not have one night 'off' do to speak?

CoachBeardsJane · 20/07/2023 01:23

So not do

GrumpyPanda · 20/07/2023 01:38

Ribollita should be pretty filling as well as low carb - maybe just get a double serving or combine with the veggie salad?

Jewelanemone · 20/07/2023 05:33

Green salad, no dressing. Boring as hell, you'll have to watch your companion eating something delicious and you'll be starving afterwards but it won't have any carbs or olive oil and your healthy eating record will remain unblemished.

I love Sarti's. Always have the spaghetti and clams.

I'd have 3 side dishes. Grilled veg, a salad and the beans or lentils. Or, half portion of veg pasta with a green salad.

HelloUtrecht · 20/07/2023 06:46

The best choice would be to allow yourself one night off, pick the menu item that sounds the most delicious, and enjoy it thoroughly.

Before I was vegetarian this was my go to.

@Jewelanemone no need. This is fine healthy eating board.

If I didn't have another 2 social events in the one month then yes I would give myself a day off. But when it's taken 2 years to get to the weight I am, I'd like to continue doing so well. So for this month in particular I would like to be careful.

Minestrone soup followed by the estiva salad, grilled vegetable or lentil side dishes.

caringcarer · 20/07/2023 09:51

Caprisi salad for starter

Tagiatelli pollo and peppers in tomato sauce for main just tell them don't put chicken in it. My DH is vegetarian and he does this all the time. They might offer a substitute by throwing in a few mushrooms.

HalloumiLuvver · 20/07/2023 14:48

The opening post is only 8 lines long and 2 of the first 4 posters manage to miss the fact the OP is veggie. ConfusedConfusedConfused

caffelattetogo · 20/07/2023 15:05

I'd ask if they would do the Caprese di Pomodori, Mozzarella, Basilico e Olio Extra Vergine as a main, and have soup as your starter. Low carb and tasty.

minipie · 20/07/2023 15:14

I would get Caprese as a starter and then Minestrone or Ribollita as a main. I’m sure they can do a larger portion, but you may not need it as they are filling soups. Then you could possibly even have the affogato Wink

Definitely stay away from any pizza or cheese laden pasta dishes. Sorry.
