Hungry at 1650 cals

I’ll start this off by saving I have lost 3st 7lb so far so weight loss is going well, but I am finding myself increasingly hungrier as times go by.
i aim for 1600-1650 cals a day, which I don’t think is super low for a calorie deficit, however it just doesn’t feel like enough!
For example today I’ve had 1663 cals, 183g of protein (I aim to eat high protein) and I’m sat here depressed because I’m hungry and can’t have anything else.
I’m pretty focused / obsessed with my weight loss journey so conscious I may be being too strict? But surely I shouldn’t be hungry on that?
I will caveat and say I exercise daily - eg yesterday 5k run, today 35 mins weighted circuit, tomorrow might do 10k. And I’m also breastfeeding but he’s 2, so a few times a day/night (nothing like the 500 cals burnt from nourishing a newborn). Can anyone give me any advice?

Oh, I haven’t even put stats. 12st 5lb and BMI 28.9. So still very much in the overweight category.

Cardio causes hunger. That's why most people lift weights or don't exercise when losing weight.

Eat fat, oil, meat, veg, nuts, yoghurt. Quit carbs, fruit, sugar. You'll be full. It's hard, and I can't do it, but when I can I'm not hungry.

Well done for your loss so far that's amazing!

I'm currently 21lbs down in 7 weeks doing intermittent fasting & calorie control and no carbs, I've found that my appetite is so much less now with the fasting and I find it so easy.
I'm doing 1300 calories. High protein, no carbs.

Only eating 1pm-8pm window which I think helps as I can spread the calories into that time without trying to fill a whole day with them so I never really feel hungry x

Agree with pp if you do 16:8 it will help. Missing breakfast would give you a more generous lunch and dinner. So you might feel a bit hungry at first in the morning but it is easier to ignore as you know you have two decent meals to come. Also easier to ignore hunger earlier in the day when you are busy compared to the evening when you might be sat about.

I’m now down 5st 2lb (I put on around 9lb across November / December as well and truly fell off the wagon). I’m still finding the hunger pangs, and have spoke to a trainer who told me to do more weights and if I do cardio to eat the calories I burn. Which blows my mind! Aiming for around 1700 cals to get this last 1st 3lb off and hoping to gain more muscle as currently body fat % is still high - even with a BMI of 25.
Might try intermittent fasting but I do find I wake up hungry!!

Doing cardio is good for your....errr cardio though - your heart and circulation.
Don't we all need to do some regular exercise which increases our heart rate a few times a week?

shearwater2 · 04/01/2024 16:11

Yes definitely. I do cardio as it's not use being strong to me if I'm not fit as well.

How much fibre are you having? If I have 25g to 30g fibre a day this really helps with hunger, more than lots of protein. I don't find many protein sources filling and satisfying at all apart from chicken. I could eat salmon until it comes out of my ears.
