Did you gain the weight back after a crash diet

I'm currently on a very low calorie diet and losing weight for the first time in a long time. I feel like I've tried every diet and nothing has ever worked before. I also go to the gym.

I've been reading all these things saying when I go back to eating normal I will gain the weight back and more. Obviously I'm not going to go back to eating bad foods frequently, it will be a healthy diet but not as low in calories and I'll still go to the gym.

Has anyone done a crash diet and kept the weight off?

What diet were / are you following?

Just limited calories. I used MFP to track everything I ate and drank, and I didn’t eat back my exercise calories. I ate 1200 calories or less every day for 3 months. I often missed breakfast - still do, just the way my body works.

I ate a lot of eggs, mushrooms, spinach, salmon, porridge, and a huge number of salads. I did eat some bread and potatoes but really small portions. No pasta. A lot of fruit.

I noticed that mentally I don’t feel like I’ve eaten if I haven’t crunched something, so instead of snacking on things like Greek yogurt I’d eat almonds.

Now I eat a normal diet but smaller portions, fewer/healthier snacks, less alcohol than previously.

Usually the reason the weight goes back on, is because the dieters revert back to their old eating habits.

With most VLCD, they have a re feed. Whereby, you slowly increase the calories to maintain. Most don't follow this and just go back to eating food, that they weren't allowed to eat before.

It's all about discipline and willpower. Some people once they lose weight, diet for life. Others will diet on and off. Whereas, others just go back to old habits and yo yo throughout their life.

The issue isn't the diet that was followed, to lose the weight. It's more the fact that the dieter didn't change their habits long term!!

This in a nutshell. It doesn’t matter how you lose the weight if you go back to old eating habits right away. It really does need to be a change of mindset.

Incidentally I lost over 3st on 1:1 diet a few years ago and have kept within roughly a half stone radius of this weight either way. You have to work through the steps on this plan to increase your calorie intake and your normal food intake. It really helped me reset my approach to eating and calories. I never had the same success with SW or WW over the years.

DH lost weight by giving up sugar in his tea. It has never come back - that was about 10
years ago. He’s since given up alcohol as well.

I do think there are some permanent changes that result in permanent loss.

My plan is to keep the fat off by gaining more muscle as it raises the metabolism. I got down to my target weight through diet and am now stable although my fat % is still declining. I am doing lots of heavy weights. My dietary changes however are permanent, I don't calorie count but eat very little sugar or upf.
