Moving on from Ozempic to what ?

I've managed to lose 30 pounds on Ozempic & Saxenda but I've stalled on the 1mg dose. I'm tired of paying the prohibitive cost & trying to source stock & hence thinking about moving on. I'm wondering about trying Mysimba or Orlistat. Have any other posters experience in trialing these 2 treatments?

Or reducing and improving diet and increasing movement and exercise?

Cantonet · 13/07/2023 11:30

If only it was that simple @Kimchikitchen. Then there wouldn't be the need for all these supplementary treatments.

It probably depends how much weight you have to still lose. 🙂 so many people are having really good success with ozempic, I’m looking forward to seeing support threads and general experience people have when they reduce doses or come off. It’ll be good to have a support structure when all my brain wants is an entire large dominos in one sitting again.

I’ll probably stay on the metformin for my pcos but I’m thinking about going back to keto for a bit just to get over what I’m expecting to be a massive increase in hunger and cravings again, probably try and cut sugar completely for a month or so. I will only be trying to maintain though, not lose more weight.

But since the very substantial loss on the meds

have you tried the simple approach?

a lot easier to exercise 30 pounds down!

I'm in the 70 - 80 kg range. I developed gestational diabetes years ago & I think I'm very sensitive to carbs & sugar. Even from healthy items like fruit & oats. So Ozempic worked really well for moderating these glucose spikes.
I have one very expensive 0.25 pen left. So I will use it for a 1.5 mg dose for the final week.As the 1mg strength isn't doing anything now. Then I've ordered Mysimba. I'm going to be on holiday for the next two weeks to tropical countries renowned for their food cultures. So I'm hoping these treatments will help.

Having done all of this for almost 10 years plus calorie counting/paying personal trainer etc etc with zero success and then taken Ozempic for 8 months and losing 28.5lbs, I agree with @Cantonet if only it were that simple. I've hormonal issues which I'm trying to get resolved, waiting on endocrinologist appointment, but it isn't always as easy as the above.

@Kimchikitchen the simple approach used to work for me years ago. Plus intermittent fasting also helped. But at 59 & with dodgy glucose intolerance dieting is very slow & almost ineffective. And a BMI of over 36 wasn't healthy for me at all. I already eat a super healthy Mediterranean diet with lots of fruit & veggies.

My point is - it’s different starting exercise when you’re 2/3 stone lighter than before. Have you tried the more simple approach since you lost the weight ?

Happierwithouthim · 14/07/2023 10:10

Following a healthy diet and exercising has been a constant on this journey and even with Ozempic this has slowed down to 1/2lbs per month loss for me, the value of it though is I've not gained weight at any point since starting Ozempic.

Cantonet · 14/07/2023 11:26

@Happierwithouthim I totally agree. I've been watching my food intake all the time. I've stopped monitoring it on My Fitness Pal but I still try & follow the intermittent fasting rules & skip breakfast. One thing I have noticed is that sugar cravings have crept back as I've been on the 1mg Ozempic for a while. Sometimes a handful of Raspberries or Strawberries doesn't cut it any more. And I'm craving a mini choc ice or Vanilla ice cream. I used to really dislike vanilla Ice cream 😂

I agree @Kimchikitchen exercise is a lot easier now. I'm planning on rejoining the Gym come September. Meanwhile I'm just trying to get as many steps in as possible. My dog is old & sick & has pretty much stopped doing walkies 😥

@Kimchikitchen are you a slim person who has always been this way, because I get that feeling, some slim people think that overweight people overeat and sit and do nothing, and it's true that some do, but I definitely don't.

And are you one of those overweight people who always think that everyone is judging them when they quite reasonably ask about diet and movement? Although they are utterly irrelevant to the conversation

Lily0719 · 14/07/2023 12:19

Maybe try Berberine?

Point taken, but interestingly you didn't answer either Grin

Never heard of it before.

I'm taking Ozempic under medical supervision & will continue while waiting to see endocrinologist.
