Same old story …. Trying to get back on track

Writing this more of a journal and to keep myself accountable. I’ve lurked on here for a long time and seem to follow the same story as many other posters. Yo-yo dieting throughout my 30s and now at 41 perimenopausal and struggling to shift any weight.

So here we go, the stats:
age - 41
height - 5 ft 2
BMI - 28.5
weight - 11 stone 1 lb
target weight - 9 stone 7 lb
(really should take a waist measurement at some point)

Current plan is protein shake for breakfast and lunch, snacks of fruit and veg throughout the day and then a sensible dinner at night time and stop eating by approximately 8pm. Planning on logging all food on MyFitnessPal too.

I'm really hoping this works as I feel so dumpy at the minute and could really do with shifting quite a few pounds. Nothing fits properly anymore and I feel bloated and blah most of the time. Pre covid I really found my food/ exercise groove and got down to 9 stone but then WFH etc, stress hit and it’s all crept back on again and more!

I already swim for 30 minutes x 3 per week and do 1 reformer Pilates class per week. Looking to up the exercise to a 30 minute walk every day and try and fit the gym in before swimming once or twice per week.

Anyway like I said this is mainly just for me to keep track of my journey. I’ll keep updating with how I’m getting on.

Good luck anyone else on a similar journey

Hi,

My bmi is similar currently.
Down from 91kg, bmi 32.8 to 81.5kg bmi 28.8 currently.

I am active quite a lot, but the only thing that helps me lose weight is keeping my eating in check. You can't outrun a bad diet is something I've heard said.

I currently use nutracheck to count calories, but I have a friend who has lost a similar amount but through intermittent fasting. Is there a way of eating less/healthier than you find works for you?

Also, just to add my current foood plan is similar too! Protein shake for breakfast and sensible dinner. Good luck!

Thanks for the reminder about nutracheck - I used this previously and really liked it so will give it a try again.

I’ve had quite a successful day today - stuck to my food plan and am having salmon, veggies and rice for dinner tonight. I also have a swim booked for 7:30 so will really try and get the lengths up more than usual.

You’re definitely right about not outrunning a bad diet - I know food is definitely my biggest issue. Calorie counting and cutting out sugary snack is the way forwards.

Little update mostly for me to keep myself accountable…

started at weight - 11 stone 1 lb (10/07/23)
after 7 days now at 10 stone 11lb (17/07/23)

really pleased with a 4lb loss on the first 7 days 😊 Stuck to my meal plan except Friday night curry out with friends but had a dry fish dish and no naan bread. Sunday had a carvery but has minimal roasties and loads of veg.

This is the first time this year I’ve stuck at it and seen results. Just need to keep on track until target weight 🤞
