Today I went to the gym for an hour. Swam for 1/2 hr. Ate a salad.

Just how much did you expect to lose in a few hours?

Don't lose hope OP.
Muscle weighs heavier than fat.

You are doing great.

That’s not possible. A kilogram of muscle and a kilogram of fat are both a kilogram.

Muscle however takes up less space than fat.

There are def a lot of misconceptions when it comes to muscles. Most people who lose weight are not gaining bigger muscles they are uncovering their muscles that had the fat on top of them.

I swim a lot now and my arms look better as they have less fat on them now and my muscle and skin is probably more toned than it was before so you can see more muscle now but I am not trying to gain muscle to do that I would have to do a lot of specific resistance exercises and eat differently than a low cal diet I am trying to maintain the muscle. Muscles are more compact than fat cells so take up less space as @LMNT said. They weigh the same though in terms of actual weight in physics terms. You don’t want to lose too much muscle mass when you diet by eating too low calories for too long as your body will also burn fat and muscles which is why it’s good to eat more protein than carbs and do strength exercises not just cardio to maintain your muscle

That graph is great! I have been feeling a bit unmotivated this week and it’s helped.

Glad it was helpful, that was 24lb loss over 100 days total but there were some days where the scales would have had me believe I'd gained 3lb or lost 4lb in a 24hr period.

Obviously hormonal fluctuations make a big difference, and I did see a definite pattern in my weight loss slowing down the week before my period then I'd have a sudden drop in weight on day 1 of my cycle and throughout my period.

The other huge factor was water, the days I drank 2lts of water it would show as a loss on the scales the next day.

Absolute worst thing for weight gain according to the scales, even worse than stuffing my face with all the cake, was if I had a day where I did lots of exercise but didnt drink much. If I got to the point where my muscles ached and didn't hydrate then I gained over the next few days. It is absolutely true that your body uses water to heal muscle fibres and if you dont provide it then your body will cling onto every single drop it can find and retain it.

The chemical process of Lipolysis which is basically the process that breaks down fat and expels it also uses water. No water, no fat breakdown.

It will be a mixture of water and food. Of course you won't lose weight from morning to afternoon.

If it makes you feel better im doing the cambridge diet at the moment and apparently gained 4lb from Saturday to this morning.

Bodies are weird, weight loss is hard and takes much much longer than you ever think it will.

It takes months of consistent resistance training with weights to build a lb of muscle, not an hour in the gym plus a swim!

I wish it was only an hour. I'd look like Arnold already 😂
