Quick question - what is a realistic weight loss target in 5 weeks? I have about 21lbs to lose.

Oh is everyone ignoring this because it's in this topic

Tumbleweed.

TotalChaos · 23/02/2008 22:06

I'ld say between 7 and 10lb.

dragonbutter · 23/02/2008 22:07

oh don't be ignored.
i think it's reasonable to lose 1lb a week.
So i guess you might lose about 5lbs.
I don't know, just didn't want you to be ignored.

FattieMcPieFace · 23/02/2008 22:12

Oh thank you! So if I go for an average of those two, say 8 lbs do you think that is realistic?

OP posts:
RipMacWinkle · 23/02/2008 22:16

I'm sure my friend (who went to WW or SS or something) said that 1-1.5 pounds a week was good or average or something so on that basis - 5 to 7.5lbs?

However, if you cut out the McPies... maybe more

FattieMcPieFace · 23/02/2008 22:17

Whatever could you mean? McPies are the most slimming food known to man...oh hang on...

OP posts:
RipMacWinkle · 23/02/2008 22:18

I wish!!!

dragonbutter · 23/02/2008 22:19

What exactly is in a mcpie?

JingleyJen · 23/02/2008 22:21

the more you have to loose the more you can loose initially but as you only have 21lb to loose I would say 1-2 lb's a week. is healthy weight loss.

FattieMcPieFace · 23/02/2008 22:25

McPie is full of chocolate mini eggs, percy pig sweets, caramel shortbread, hot buttered toast, pizza crusts from the dc's tea...all the things I love and shouldn't eat but can't stop myself porking on... GRRRRRRRRRR. Why does stuff that is so bad for you so damn good?! Why doesn't fruit taste like chocolate and WHY oh WHY can't I find a form of exercise I enjoy AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggg gggggggggggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

OP posts:
dragonbutter · 23/02/2008 22:26

what exercise have you tried and why didn't you like them? let's get constructive here

FattieMcPieFace · 23/02/2008 22:32

URm, aerobics, swimming (actually find that hard on my back bizarrely) can't afford gym, am rubbish at sport generally, tried running once years ago but didn't like that either! I used to go 'power'...ahem...walking with a friend and managed to maintain that for quite a long time but then she moved away and I haven't plucked up the courage to ask someone else. Oh it's so sad isn't it

OP posts:
dragonbutter · 23/02/2008 22:38

Have you tried PowerEating. I have a theory about cadbury's chocolate eclairs. That the energy burned during the chewing outweighs the actual calorie intake.
What do you think?

FattieMcPieFace · 23/02/2008 22:39

I think I should stop taking weight loss advice from you

Right off to bed...maybe that extra weight will just drop off in the night

OP posts:
RipMacWinkle · 23/02/2008 22:39

dragonbutter - Ha!!

I think you should copyright that idea. You might just have something there.

Off to test your theory as I'm sure I've got half a bag in the cupboard.

dragonbutter · 23/02/2008 22:46

but i wanted to ask what was happening in 5 weeks that you need to lose weight for? have you got a fight coming up? or maybe you are a racehorse?

dragonbutter · 23/02/2008 22:46

it's not the horses they weigh is it, it's the jockeys.

FattieMcPieFace · 24/02/2008 08:59

Hee hee, yes I have my first professional race... on the flat, 2.15 at Epsom

So, the bad news is, the weight did not fall off in the night and I've weighed myself this morning to find I've put back on any weight I lost after Christmas Bugger it.

Um five weeks is just a goal I've set myself. My big goal is to have lost at least 21 lbs before going on holiday in the summer but I thought mini-goals might be a bit more achievable than just going for the massive one.

I'm stoically ignoring the eclair theory and will wait to see what Rip has to say about it. Shreddies with skimmed milk for breakfast and soup planned for lunch. I can't wait....

NOT.

OP posts:
RipMacWinkle · 24/02/2008 09:03

Couldn't find the eclairs - used Maltesers instead. Not as much chewing hence no weight lost

At least I think that's why I've not lost any....

Go for it McPie. I'm loving your name.

FattieMcPieFace · 24/02/2008 09:19

Ah, so maltesers to be removed from the miraculous weight loss food then, just eclairs and celery remain then.

Yep, will try and stick on the straight and narrow despite the best efforts of garages/supermarkets etc to tempt me with bags of mini eggs.

Thanks for the name comment, am hoping can change it to notsofattieMcPieFace in 5 weeks or maybe even SkinnyMcCeleryFace by the summer

OP posts:
dragonbutter · 24/02/2008 10:41

The mini-eggs are a killer. I recently ate a whole bag in about 10 seconds while driving, although i'm sure there are much less in those big bags than there used to be
Just say no, i think is the best policy.
I've been trying to lose weight since christmas. With some success actually. I've lost over half a stone (chocolate eclairs i tell you). Anyway, i've swapped my evening chocolate from a big bar of anything to a tiny tiny little chocolate freddo.
My other trick is to not buy chocolate with the weekly shop so if i want it in the evening I have to walk/run to the shop to get it. Again calorie neutral!

FattieMcPieFace · 24/02/2008 14:43

1/2 stone is great, well done you!

Ah yes, the joy of shopping online is that I don't get tempted to put any chocolate in the trolley like I do when I go myself, it's the cursed garage that is hard.

I love the idea of calorie neutral, is that like carbon neutral?! So if I eat a mini egg whilst jogging on the spot it doesn't count?

Also I REALLY, REALLY need to get out of the mindset that if I'm going out or having ONE fattening meal I don't need to ditch the diet for the rest of the day or in fact the day before! That's where I fall down EVERY time I try to lose weight(we've got someone coming to stay so we will be eating out a bit so there's no point trying to be good that weekend, well if I'm not going to be good at the weekend I might as well blow it this week too....) you see what I mean?! It's a nightmare, gets me every time.

OP posts:
empen · 24/02/2008 16:51

The first week or most diets you could easily lose maybe 4lb and then realistically 1-2 a week after this. Accept that you may not lose any one week and i calculate you could lose about 7 - 10lb! depends what diet you are doing of course!

dragonbutter · 25/02/2008 08:11

There's definitely a lot of psychology to over eating. I find Mondays a good place to start. And I also do better at the beginning of the day than towards the end. I've found that now that I go the gym and see just how much exercise you have to do to burn off the equivalent calories of a mars bar, that I am less likely to eat one....it takes a whole morning of organising the kids for me to finally get on the treadmill that it would be pretty silly of me to eat a mars bar afterwards. What would be the point of it all. But exercise also reduces my appetite for a while afterwards which is good. Up until christmas and while breastfeeding I pretty much grazed all day. Paying for it now though.
But everybody's different so I guess you have to think about what your weaknesses are and what methods work for you.
