ozempic not making any difference

There's so much noise about ozempic and people making huge strides in their weight loss journeys, I just wanted to post a different experience and see if anyone else has has similar (and turned things around!)

I've been on Ozempic since April and am now week 2 of 1mg dose. After an initial feeling of appetite loss in April, and 2-3 kg loss in those first two weeks (which was probably at least partially waterweight), i've lost nothing. I thought things would change when I got to full dose two weeks ago, but Ive actually put a kilo and a half back on.

It's so disheartening when I've spent £800 and have nothing to show for it, especially when everyone else just has success story after success story. My BMI is just over 30 so maybe I've not as much to lose as some, but I've still got plenty to lose before I'm a healthy weight.

Anyone else had a similar journey ? I'm thinking I'll stick with it for the next 3 weeks and not order another if things still don't shift by the end of this pen. 😕

You need to change what you eat and how much you eat. It’s not magic.

Have you changed your eating habits?

iontheprize · 30/06/2023 18:55

Hmm. Everyone talks about it as if it's magic. Threads are FULL of people saying things like "all the food noise is gone!" "I no longer even want to drink wine" "I couldn't even finish the kids portion!" etc etc

But I'm not feeling any of that magic. I've been cutting back on portion size, no seconds, less eating out, and cutting back on alcohol. Could certainly do more of this, but if Ozempic isn't making it easier/natural to do that, why take it?

Another thing I've noticed is that I'm so tired as a side effect, that my steps are down quite significantly and I've not been able to even attempt any proper exercise.

Ozempic is a drug to manage your blood sugar, a possible side effect is that it reduces your hunger. If you don't have blood sugar issues and don't get the side effect then it won't help.

I'm pre diabetic, insulin resistant and have PCOS, Ozempic hasn't done a huge amount for my hunger levels, it's helped a bit, but it is helping regulate my glucose levels which allows me to lose weight instead of my body storing it as fat.

Alongside taking it, I'm also logging everything I eat, sticking to a low carb diet of 1600 calories or less per day and have increased my exercise. As a result I've lost 23lb since 1st April.

It's not magic and won't work by itself but it is a useful aide if you meet the criteria.

The low carb, stable blood sugars has been key for me to loose weight when nothing else has ever helped.

If you eat determinedly low carb, replacing bread, rice, pasta, potatoes with leafy green vegetables, you will achieve the stable blood sugar results without the need for any drugs.

Good luck.

I have been on Ozempic since April and have lost 35lbs. I have had reduced 'food noise' however I do feel I could eat around that if I so desired. I don't but I feel I could.

I still have to make a choice to eat less. I think if I were to eat as I was before I would manage to 'override' the Ozempic.

Maybe keep a calorie diary and keep under a certain amount? Almost meeting the Ozempic half way and then it will support you?
