Saxenda shortages

Scottishlanza · 29/06/2023 17:48

Whilst I agree that Saxenda and the other weight loss jabs should be prioritised for diabetics I think it’s ridiculous how the drug was licensed for weight loss without production being ramped up.
I’ve been on Saxenda 6 months (paid for) and have lost 2 stone, it’s been a revelation to me. I’m hoping that my new habits will stick if I can’t source any Saxenda but I’m terrified that the all consuming hunger will return.

So my questions are,

  1. Does anyone know a company that has stock
  2. Any other alternatives that have worked, herbal maybe, berberine, myo inositol, alli, anything else

Shortages are due to continue until mid 2024!

Ugh where have you heard this??

Ive seen several companies imply that stock may be being rationed monthly, so once a company gets that months delivery (which may be less than they tried to order) that’s it until the next month and it’s then running out fast and so they are then out of stock until the next month

BeCruelToBeKind · 29/06/2023 23:23

Work email. NHS.

I’ve also heard about the supply issues going on til 2024. That’s why I need a different approach

Alli is a branded lower version of Orlistat which im on, I got it via my gp. It works in a different way than Saxenda and Oxempic.

I have lost weight on it but im also calorie counting and staying away from high fat food which gives you side effects if you have too much.

Scottishlanza · 30/06/2023 12:05

@BusyCaz I wondered if it might be a version of Orlistat, I can’t take that as the insides of my mouth swelled in an allergic reaction. I’m also doing low carb rather than low fat so I suspect I’d have the horrible side effects even if I could take it

Yeah, even on a low fat diet there have been a couple of times the side effects haven't been pleasant.

I'm reducing my BMI for a tummy tuck, I probably wouldn't have stayed on it but for this.

Saxenda works by reducing appetite. The natural way to achieve this is through a low carb/higher fat diet. I’ve done low carb three times now for 2-3 months each time. It completely reduces cravings for snacks and anything sugary. I’ve lost loads of weight with low carb. I tend to eventually get bored with no potatoes/pasta/bread etc but as a short term solution, you might consider it. The low carb 'Bootcamp‘ is infill flow on another thread. If you find the introductory discussion about dos and don’ts you’ll get the idea.

*is in full flow

SatOnBeckysHill · 02/07/2023 18:29

Didn't think saxenda was used for diabetes?

Only ozempic

Scottishlanza · 02/07/2023 22:39

@SatOnBeckysHill The active ingredient liraglutide is used for diabetes so the shortage is still there for both

No o got 3 pens of saxenda on Friday

From Boots

SatOnBeckysHill · 02/07/2023 23:18

And ozempic is semiglutide

Sotiredmjmmy · 02/07/2023 23:42

@SatOnBeckysHill Boots are now out of stock of saxenda too, they were the only ones left with stock of saxenda over last few weeks and now have none, big red banner on their website.

Saxenda is a brand name, it is exactly the same drug as victosa and is a diabetes drug, same family of drugs as ozempic and works in same way. Same as how wegovy is the weight loss licensed version of ozempic.

if you are currently taking saxenda you may wish to read up a bit more on what it is

SatOnBeckysHill · 02/07/2023 23:55

I know exactly what it is and I am an existing customer now and do have another prescription ready but I won't need anymore once I've finished these pens anyway

They are not taking new customers as per the website

Scottishlanza · 03/07/2023 01:16

I’ve ordered some glucomannan drinks to try as my biggest problem when dieting is hunger and these are meant to make you feel fuller and this is also one of the saxenda effects. I emailed Asda online doctor and they said they expect to get more saxenda stock next month and as all other suppliers are doing it will likely be for their existing customers, I can’t see that any providers are taking new customers on at the moment.
Even if the drinks don’t scientifically work I’m hoping there’s enough of a placebo effect to tide me over til I get saxenda again, it’s been a real revelation to me. It’s truely shut off that voice in my head that says I need to snack etc

AliceMcK · 03/07/2023 07:39

@Scottishlanza i feel the same. I left it too late last time I ordered and was left without some for a couple of weeks due to the shortage the hunger came back with a vengeance and I ended up putting weight back on in that short time.
