Saxenda - week 12 and no loss for 4 weeks

Hi,

For a bit of an insight. Before I got pregnant when I was 23 I was on keto and 62kgs, my first pregnancy was extremely complicated and I also had to stop keto I gained 22kgs and was 84kgs at birth. I was able to drop 10kgs before getting pregnant 2 years later and gained 20kg through that pregnancy, the same rare 1st pregnancy happened again in the second pregnancy, which I was told was extremely rare. After my second child I was 84kgs but I actually put on 5kgs with depression. Feeling great after 3 months I started exercising and dieting. I managed to get down to 82kgs by myself , then it all stopped no more weightloss. Continued to exercise and eat healthy and nothing!! So I got recommended saxenda and in the first 8 weeks I was down to 77.2kg with the same exercise and dieting. But for the last 4 weeks nothing , I am actually up in weight to 78.4kg. I'm still working out but not as consistent as I like due to children being sick and having a lot of stuff on but every time I can, I'm working out. I'm a little more hungry from when I first started but still eating rather healthy and small portions.

So I'm asking if this is normal?
What can I do to continue to loose weight.

It obviously cost a lot of money so I don't want to be on it for to long. So I'm doing everything I can to loose weight as fast as possible.

Any advice would be appreciated

Also to add - because I've lost 4% I'm still well in the clean to continue but I don't want to if I have to pay so much for nothing.

Even though you are making healthier choices and doing some exercise, you must be eating too many calories.

Have you calculated your maintenance calories and are you tracking everything you eat/drink in a day?

If you were in a calorie deficit you would be losing weight.

KC1994 · 27/06/2023 03:58

@electriclight I don't count calories, I'm always on the move and always busy.

So I picked something more convenient to my lifestyle due to work and kids. I choose to fast 16 hours over 24 hours and because I'm not so hungry since being on saxenda. When I'm eating, I do a very low carb diet and barely ever have sugar. If I do , it isn't a lot, but most days, I avoid sugar.

I would say I manage to at least work out 3 days per week, but try to get to 5 days per week when possible. However, to add more exercise me and my kids and I walk wherever we can instead of driving, which I never used to do.

Myself and my doctor feel as if I'm doing enough to be losing weight.

You mentioned depression in your post. Could you be taking an anti depressant (or similar) which is preventing/making it more difficult for you to loose weight?

KC1994 · 27/06/2023 04:04

@ababmac95 that's a great question. But yes I'm off all medications prior to starting saxenda. I had been of them a few months before starting.

Keep a proper food diary for a week and work out the macros of what you are eating. You might spot something there that could be causing this stall, or you'll be able to rule your diet out as the issue. Exercise is only a small part of weight loss. Your diet is the thing that matters the most.

KC1994 · 27/06/2023 04:08

@BadNomad okay. I'll make sure to start logging. And seeing if Im missing something. Hopefully the dots connect fast. 🙏

OK all. Another thing is which I forgot from when I use to lift. I'm working out more than I have so I guess , could it be that I'm gaining muscle. I have had people say to me alot I'm looking great and they can see huge changes? But would it be enough muscle gain to not be loosing weight ans intact slightly gaining.

It might be worth taking your measurements each month also. I'm not sure 2 months is long enough to start gaining more muscle mass than fat loss. Also, at the start of any diet you always lose a lot of water weight then that levels out then it should be mostly fat loss after that. Definitely check what you're eating. You'd be surprised how easy it is to overeat on protein, nuts and dairy without realising.

KC1994 · 27/06/2023 04:56

Thanks @BadNomad I'll start fresh tomorrow, track what I'm eating and hopefully be able to see what's going on. I want to avoid getting upset and keep focused.

Oh yes don't let this get you down! The important thing to remember is that you have the will and the willpower. Finding that is half the battle. And you've done so well already in a short space of time. It takes time to figure out what your body is doing and what it wants, especially in the early days when its adjusting to all the changes. You'll get there 🤗

KC1994 · 27/06/2023 05:28

@BadNomad are you on saxenda at all? I'm curious what happens when you stop. I'm hoping that if I only do it for a short time I am less likely to gain the weight back. I know half the battle is keeping the weight off once you stop. It's why I was hesitant to start at first. It's easy to say you won't let yourself get this bad again but we all know how fast it can happen.
