The no S diet

AlyssumandHelianthus · 23/06/2023 09:08

This seems like a good idea. The plan is to basically go back to eating how I did as a kid/teen.
No snacks
No sweets
No seconds
Except sometimes on days starting with an S (eg. Saturday, Sunday and special days like your birthday/holiday etc.).
I'm going to change to eating this way, (hopefully forever) and just report my weight/progress here. I'm hoping it will be a long term sustainable way for me not to be over weight. I'm currently 88.5kg and 5 foot 10, size 16. I'd like to slowly slim down to a size 14 and under 80kg.
Anyone else doing this diet? Done it? Never changed from when they were younger?

This sounds like a fun challenge. However when you say no snacking is that everything? I often have fruit for a snack... I would say that's acceptable?

AlyssumandHelianthus · 23/06/2023 10:17

Hmmm, yeah I think the idea is that you can have fruit with your meal, but not as a snack as you are supposed to get out of the habit of snacking.
I'm going to play that one by ear as I also often snack on fruit.

Hi I am going to do this. snack all the time so will find it quite hard but need to try something. I am 5 foot 8 and 12 stone 4 pounds. I would love to get down to 10 stone.

AlyssumandHelianthus · 25/06/2023 20:40

Hi, how's it going everyone?
I've been fine with no snacking or seconds. No sweets is more of a challenge!
Properly on the wagon tomorrow

Bit hungry today and had an apple as a snack, which I've decided is fine. I'm on the blob and need mollycoddling.
B. Toast & marmite& an apple
L. Quorn sausage roll, hummus, cucumber, mango
D. Herby fried potatoes, salmon, peas
Apple

I didn’t know this was an official diet. I used to eat like that years ago and trying to get back to it. I used to call them S days. So sweets, snacks or sugar unless the day started with an S

88.5 kg on 23/6
87.9kg on 28/6

89.2 on 1/07
Need a slight course correct on the 'seconds' as been having a few buffet style meals or meals out with starters.

87.7 on 3/07

Alyssum you are doing so well. Sorry I know I said I would join you, but have decided to start just not eating after my dinner . Hopefully once I get use to that I can attempt the no s diet again.

The sugar in fruit stimulates insulin production (the fat-retention hormone)

Best to stimulate it as little as possible. Snack on cheese/cooked meats, if you must snack, but a lot of the problems with obesity are as much to do with frequency of eating as they are to do with what we eat. There's as much sugar in a banana as a Mars bar. Your body doesn't know where it came from.

AlyssumandHelianthus · 03/07/2023 20:37

@imperialqueen - I think that's half the battle!

This is like trying to stop smoking by only having cigarettes on days beginning with s. It's nuts.

AlyssumandHelianthus · 06/07/2023 08:32

Sticking to it well this week & deffo a week where any other diet would have gone in the bin as it's irregular hours, lots of social stuff etc. Main issue has been drinking, I've had a lot of evening dos where I've had one drink. Will see what the scales say about that when I next remember to weigh.

I'm not trying to give up sugar completely, just cut it back. So far this is working well.

Sounds like old fashioned dieting!! Which often works haha

AlyssumandHelianthus · 18/07/2023 08:03

Checking back in after a holiday. I haven't weighed yet, but was definitely off the rails so I'm expecting I will have gained some weight.

AlyssumandHelianthus · 21/07/2023 08:45

Just weighed and I'm now 89.2 - higher than my start weight. That's after nearly 2 weeks 'off'. I'm going to start again and stick to it even on holiday. The idea is long term so I'll see how I go. (,Obvs I realise I'm talking to myself here but it seems somehow more accountable.

I'm joining you as of now! My main bad habit is wine but I'm now going to treat it as a snack and ban it except for mealtimes. Good luck.

Dizzywizz · 22/07/2023 09:16

Ok it sounds pretty sensible, I’m gonna try it too!

alwaysonadiet1 · 22/07/2023 09:23

I can see the logic in having Saturdays and Sundays off to help you keep going but it could be easy to undo the good work, so I think cautious inclusion of snacks/sugar on the weekend is the way to go.

alwaysonadiet1 · 29/07/2023 11:06

It works! 1 week in, 3lbs down, 2 stone to go. How's everyone doing?
