I'm sure I heard somewhere that on a low carb diet you can eat as much of this stuff as you like. So I asked my mum to pick me up some.

She bought me home a 75g bar of milk chocolate. So I've been looking at the info on the back and this is what it says;

per 100g

479 kcal
carbs 52.g of which:
sugars 9.1g
Polyols 42.9g
starch 0.7g
Fat 34.1g
of which saturates 21.6g

Obviously i'm really only concerned about the carb levels, but surely that's quite a lot. Have I got the wrong stuff? or can someone explain why its ok to eat it.

Just a reminder i'm not on atkins just my own made up low carb diet.

Thanx

Pink

BTW- I had to try and already had 1/4 of the bar, so I hope it's ok

Yep, it's yummy! I get it as a treat and have 1/5 of the bar at a time - 1 row of squares. That's not too many carbs and if it stops you feeling deprived (and ending up having loads of chocs made with sugar!) then it's fine in my book. Which reminds me, I need to stock up...

Thanx sugarbird, wasn't sure if it was right. Still dont quite understand the concept behind it, but there we go.

Just looked again at your first message and you said it was milk chocolate. If you get the dark version it's less carbs.

SugarBird · 22/02/2008 23:44

But in small quantities is still probably the best way to eat it

Don't eat too much you will get the scoot, as with a lot of diabetic stuff it may be lower in sugars but not always lower in fat.

Looking at the values for normal milk chcolate it looks like there is more fat inthe diabetic one but only a fifth of the sugar.

Oh dear, had a couple of glasses of wine last night and polished off the rest of the chocolate . Think I need to do some damage limitation today.

No adverse effects for too much consumption, which is kind of a shame coz that might have cancelled out the negative effects of eating it in the first place
