A revelation- I think I've found what works long term

Years of dieting.

Tried everything and yes, always lost weight. Always regained it though.

Stuff tried ( from most recent to oldest)

  • Ozempic
  • OMAD
  • Low Carb
  • second nature
  • Noom
  • Jane Plan
  • Weight watchers

Have joined Emma Storey Gordon's coaching 6 weeks programme 'Commit to 6' and have dropped 7 pounds already. But more importantly I feel I have learned the principles by which to live happily long term. I'm 46, peri menopausal but no underlying health issues. Started with just over 2 stone to lose.

It's not magic, but it is presented in a way that creates long term mindset shifts and behavioral change. The penny has finally dropped for me.

Idea is a small to moderate calorie deficit applied consistently over the long term. I have 1700 calories a day as a target, but you are encouraged to think averages over the course of a week or month rather than aiming for perfect days every day. You allow for events and real life this way.

I also have a daily step target of 12,000.

Daily fruit and veg target of 6 portions

Protein target of 100g plus.

I do 3 strength workouts ( at home with dumbbells) each week.

I know all of this sounds obvious, but I am finally out of a restrict and then binge cycle for the first time ever - and am not hungry or tired. I have so much more energy too.

Sorry if this is dull and obvious but it has helped me massively.

No doubt someone will come along and say 'you don't need to be coached for that, save your dosh'. We'll absolutely, I did need it - it's been transformative for me already. But I'm sharing the principles here so that others who are better set up than o was might also benefit without having to spend any money too.

I feel the same way OP but it is Noom that has worked for me. It feels a revelation to me too, similar to what you've described. I also find I can eat 2000 calories a day with no problem if I've exercised and the weight doesn't creep back on.

@missfliss i follow her on Instagram and think she’s brilliant. I need to get myself on track and actually put in the work as I’ve gone way off track. I’m starting following her advice again from tomorrow after a summer way off 💪🏼

Peppy1234 · 12/09/2023 22:47

@missfliss i mean Emma storey Gordon

Peridot1 · 13/09/2023 08:05

How are you doing now @missfliss? I’ve started following ESG too and really like her advice.

missfliss · 13/09/2023 13:44

Hi 👋🏻

Yes I had a slow august with lots of events and holiday - still managed to lose a pound - and my new mindset is that maintaining is also a win.

I'm now 16 pounds down in weight, but within that my smart scales tell me I've actually lost lots of fat and have gained 2 pounds in muscle !

So a gradual body recomposition over time.

Other non scale victories are that I'm back in a size 12, can do actual press-ups now ( couldn't at all in May when I started) and now do 20 a day even if doing no other workout.

@missfliss well done- v inspiring! 🤩

ThreeBearsPorridge · 14/09/2023 05:19

What is the best way to follow her for free initially?

Peppy1234 · 14/09/2023 06:54

Just follow esgfitness for free on Instagram

Peridot1 · 14/09/2023 07:20

@missfliss - wow - great results. Well done. The weight loss is great obviously but the muscle gain is really good. Are you noticing a difference in your shape? More toned?

@ThreeBearsPorridge - you can just follow her on Instagram. She posts a lot of pretty sensible advice which is free and would certainly be enough to help get going.

missfliss · 14/09/2023 07:25

@Peridot1 yes a definite change in shape. Legs look more svelte and toned and arms too.
I feel so much better too - aches and pains really diminished.
To be honest within a week that was a marked improvement which makes me wonder if actually the amount of sugary crap and lack of whole foods before were causing inflammation maybe.
My diet isn't perfect and I still have sweet treats ( protein bars and puddings mainly) but I'm eating wholegrains and minimum 6 portions fruit and veg a day and I think that's a big difference for me.

@missfliss Changing the foods you eat is definitely a big part I’d say. It’s pretty scary what’s actually in overly processed foods these days. And some of the additives have definitely been linked to inflammation.

TickingOfAClock · 14/09/2023 07:42

You will have better long-term success ditching tv and car.
This is why people struggle with weight.

Because that just works so well with most people’s lifestyles. How is not watching tv going to make me lose weight and tone up?

Annon12345 · 14/09/2023 07:54

I've followed Emma on Instagram for some time and always wanted to sign up but can't afford the fee. I have been calorie counting with nutracheck and doing spin workouts tho and I've lost a stone this year! The hardest thing is getting back on track after an event for me!
Well done on your loss

missfliss · 14/09/2023 08:21

I don't really want to post a 'before' picture but this is from today at 5'6" and 11 stone 9. My goal is 11 stone which would get me 'just' into a healthy BMI.
However I feel having built some muscle underneath I carry the excess better.

A revelation- I think I've found what works long term

Peridot1 · 14/09/2023 08:23

You don’t look like you have much excess to me! You look great. 11 stone is my goal too. Have two stone to go.

missfliss · 14/09/2023 08:30

It is interesting.

Objectively at a similiar weight previously I've looked a different shape and 'bigger'.

I also feel a lot stronger and more 'capable' for the resistance training.

missfliss · 14/09/2023 08:32

Good luck @Peridot1 - I'm sure you have got this 100%.
I'm perfectly happy for this lady 9 pounds to be really slow for me - the actual challenge will be maintenance- which I'm expecting to be pretty much the same as losing

OP posts:
missfliss · 06/10/2023 07:04

Weight loss continues to be very slow - but then trend is down overall so I'm keeping on keeping on.
This month been very tough - dealt with a bereavement ( dad) and now Ill so lots of imperfect days creeping in but I'm still eating better consistently compared to when I started this orogramme

Peridot1 · 06/10/2023 11:49

I am so sorry for you loss @missfliss. I lost my Dad a few years ago. It’s so tough. Still miss him like mad.

I am still on Ozempic although trying to switch to Wegovy. Supplies are limited and the prices are ridiculous. So I may end up stopping.

I have joined a gym and am having sessions with a personal trainer for a while so hoping that helps.
