Can't get any ozempic or saxenda

Can't get any ozempic or saxenda injections, is it worth trying orlistat?

For context I'm 76kg, 5ft3. Every since my daughter I cannot shift the weight, pre her i weighed 63kg. I exercise 4 times a week. Calorie count. Seems to loose a pound one week, then gain it back. Etc.
any advice on the above (not on diets, I do have a dietician and PT) just looking for something alongside this.
Thank you in advance

I think you need a BMI of 37 for Saxenda or Ozempic, your BMI is about 29 so you won't be eligible unless you have other comobidities like diabetes.

TangoShoes · 11/06/2023 19:30

You could try Orlistat but I hated it. Lots of mad dashes to the toilet 🫣 it works, but only insofar as you're so scared to eat anything so the weight falls off. Have you tried Health Express for Saxenda? You do need a BMI of 30 or above though.

Also, sorry, meant to say. Have you had your thyroid checked? My autoimmune thyroiditis was only discovered postnatally, which had triggered a huge episode where I couldn't lose weight no matter what I did. Might be worth checking

I've been on ozempic for diabetes and can't get it this month, works great for it too, I've currently got no medication. Been told it's going to be short supply until next year. It's such a worry.

Pebbles16 · 11/06/2023 19:36

It's in short supply because people are buying it off label for weightloss which means people with diabetes cannot get their prescriptions. There is only so much of this drug that can be manufactured.
To answer the OP, orlistat is a completely different medication with a very different MOA.

You have to lie about your BMI.

Ivegotsunshineinabag · 11/06/2023 19:39

I’m using Orlistat and have found it to be brilliant, no mad dashes to the toilet- but I eat low fat and gym daily anyway.
Losing a lb a day at the moment.

I had to lie on to get them though, my BMI was 27, not over 30 like it’s supposed to be.

Daisy95 · 11/06/2023 19:41

Sorry to clarify, I meant I cannot get it due to not high enough bmi. I completely understand it's a different drug entirely, that's why I was asking opinions on the other options out there.

I also completely understand the struggle/worry for it people for actually need it for their diabetes, i definitely believe there should be a lot more in place to control the lack of supply for people who actually need it.

Thank you for your responses, yes of my research it's seems you have less made dashes to the toilet if you have a low fat diet.
I have been asking for a thyroid blood test just to double check but I don't think my gp is understanding that I am trying super hard.I think I may pay privately for one and double check that too. Thank you for the advice.

You have to lie about your BMI.

Are you not reading the PP saying they are diabetics and can't get it? People lying about to increase their BMI to queue jump is so wrong in those circumstances.

BusyCaz · 11/06/2023 20:02

Alli which is orlistat but at a lower dose can be bought from an online pharmacy with a BMI of 28 or over, so maybe look into this? It also removes the fat from food by 25% whereas Orlistat/Xenical removes up to 30%.

Im on Orlistat from my gp but have a much higher BMI than you, good luck x
