So nauseous on Saxenda - what to do?

I am pre diabetic and on Metformin. Have dropped back down to 46. It was never that high - 53. I just started Saxenda (Day3) but waking up feeling so nauseous! The metformin usually makes me feel nauseous anyway if I don't have some food in my stomach. Thinking about dropping it to see if it will help.

I take my injection at night before bed.
Any tips to relieve the nausea? I've just had porridge in an attempt to ease it. Thanks.

Hi I don't know how true this is but I've seem some videos on tik tok not to inject in to the stomach area to avoid nausea.

I started saxenda last week and I always inject in to my thigh area alternative legs each day . I don't get bad nausea. I get mild nausea and I take an anti nausea tablet called mottillium but you would need to ask your GP for advice on taking anything before you do especially if you're on other medications.

If you are just injecting in to the stomach , try the thighs and see how you go. It works for me.

It is bloody horrible but it will pass! Will last a few days at most.

@Lolu12 how is the injection site site going to affect whether you feel nauseous or not? I'm asking (genuinely) as I use a similar drug for diabetes and I was told to inject it into my belly (lots of potential sites there!) and I've never felt nauseous. Curious

Lolu12 · 29/05/2023 11:43

Honestly, I don't know how it does effect it it's just something that alot of people say on forums and I've seen a few videos on tik tok stating to inject it in to the thigh. So I just always inject in to the thigh. Its just my experience and opinion.

Greenleafgirl · 29/05/2023 11:44

Does it make you nauseous so that you eat less? Is that how it actually works ?

Lolu12 · 29/05/2023 11:46

Also I'm specifically talking about saxenda and not other diabetic injections. Always ask your GP where is best to inject it . My GP told me I can inject to my thigh or stomach.

I was so sick when I started saxenda. I tried my stomach first and then my thigh but was still feeling sick. I took anti-sickness tablets and the only drink that helped was lucozade orange. It does pass but for the 3-4 weeks weren't nice. I've been on it since Feb and still on a low dose because I still have bouts of sickness. Are you on the lowest dose?

SaxSick · 29/05/2023 20:16

Yes I'm on the lowest dose and can only see myself continuing on this as I feel so yuk. Really can barely eat. Forcing it down and it needs to be bland.

Which anti nausea did you use? I'm browsing Amazon now.
