Appetite suppressant

I’m trying to get fitter and loose weight. I can do the exercise side, but because my job requires working long hours I find myself tired and eating crap! Can anyone recommend a good appetite suppressant to use whilst I get back into not snacking please.

I’ve found protein powder helps a bit.

SameToo · 27/05/2023 09:54

Thank you @DustyLee123 i normal have a protein shake in the morning, would you recommend having another when I feel snacky?

Yes. For me that’s mid afternoon.

Pixiedust1234 · 27/05/2023 11:19

I'm new to this so have been taste testing protein puddings etc (most are vile lol) but am happy to eat the new version of weetabix with extra 50% protein. I definitely feel a lot fuller and less likely to snack. Perhaps have that in morning and have your protein shake in afternoon?

I’m new to protein, so I’d think you need to look at calories and protein, and when you are hungry, and decide when it’s best to have the powder.

SameToo · 27/05/2023 15:08

Thank you both. I wonder if the snacking is because I’m not getting enough protein. I know there is a way to calculate the amount of protein you need a day. Guess I should try eating the right amount to protein first and see if that helps.

I’ve read 1g of protein per kg of body weight, but that’s for menopausal women.

If you like eggs boil up half a dozen for the fridge. One medium egg is about 70 cals and satisfies your hunger if you're feeling peckish.

Other options for low calorie, high protein are:

  • beef jerky, a 25g pack is about 75 cals
  • cheese string/babybel
  • Greek yoghurt - get full fat it's nicer and more satisfying, because it's nicer you don't feel the need to flavour it with more calories.
  • Longley Farms Full fat cottage cheese, available in Morrisons, Asda, home bargains. I cannot stress enough how much better this cottage cheese is than every other cottage cheese. Honestly it's fantastic!

If you have a hankering for crispy that you just can't get past then look for Good Guys Bakehouse wafer crackers in Sainsburys. They are 5 cals per wafer and come in cheddar or pepper and chilli flavours. I often find on a diet that crisps/crackers are the texture that I miss most because nothing else really emulates it, you don't get that same dry, salty, crispness from veg, fruit or protein.

I agree with @FatAgainItsLettuceTime about Longley Farms Full fat cottage cheese. I buy it by the dozen from Iceland. Also Dunster's Farm is identical if you're in Lancs. I haven't seen it anywhere else including where I now live

Thank you @FatAgainItsLettuceTime great suggestions. Is it still a thing that you’re not meant to eat more than a certain number of eggs per week? I love eggs and could easily eat them every day!

No clue, I can't keep up with the 'what's bad for you in what quantity and how well cooked theories'. I eat eggs fairly frequently, they're quick, tasty, versatile and as far as I know good for you. I really like a 2 egg scramble for breakfast with spring onions, chillies and a sprinkle of hot sauce.

@DustyLee123 is there a particular protein powder you’d recommend? How do you have it?

SameToo · 27/05/2023 20:15

Thanks @FatAgainItsLettuceTime i love an egg so it’s a really good shout for me and I’ll just pretend I didn’t hear anything 😂

I was recommended ‘bulk’ by a pal who runs and is very healthy ! I’ve got the unflavoured as it hasn’t got sucrose in it, and so far I’ve mixed it in yogurt, milk and ready made cold latte ! It’s nice in the milk/latte as it makes it a bit thick and frothy 😋
Im new to this, and I’ve also tried a couple of the protein yogurts, but I don’t actually know what I’m doing !

SameToo · 28/05/2023 14:09

Ooh thanks @DustyLee123 i haven’t heard of that. Yeah I’m pretty new to it all too but need to get fitted for my work!
