Too much fruit

I'm trying to eat better and cut out the crap but I think I eat too much fruit. What do people snack on which isn't fruit but is low calorie/healthy?

Protein mug cakes, protein cookies, yogurt, babybels.

'protein' products are UPF. No shade, I went through a phase of eating a lot of them. Cheese, cucumber carrots peppers with hummus, cherry tomatoes, olives, nuts apple with 100%peanut butter, rye crackers. Chicken. Boiled eggs.

Thank you. I need to get out of the mindset that I can eat food at any time during the day not just non breakfast food after noon.

As long as you're eating whole fruit I really don't think you have to worry. The natural fibre acts as a barrier to overeating fruit

Totally agree, I have soya yoghurt with raspberries/ blueberries and a chopped up banana daily and usually another banana at some point in the day too. It's not too much for me as I've lost 3 stone. There's lots of chat about fruit having too much sugar, natural sugars in fruit are very different from processed sugars and as long as it she while fruit and not blended in a smoothie then it's fine.

Thank you. That makes sense to me. For example, I had yesterday over the course of the day, some berries with breakfast, a banana, an orange and then some watermelon in the evening. Just feels like too much fruit but I enjoy it and stops me reaching for the biscuit tin!

That's absolutely fine OP, good source of fibre and vitamins.

Bubbles254 · 27/05/2023 08:33

If you are concerned about glucose spikes it is good to have fruit at the end of a meal rather than as a standalone snack as the sugars get absorbed more slowly that way.

BIWI · 27/05/2023 08:35

How about snacking on vegetables instead? Cucumber, celery, carrot, for example? They will have less of an impact on your blood sugars.

BanditsOnTheHorizon · 27/05/2023 09:20

Pop corn (make it yourself)
Cucumber
Carrots
Chip sticks (salt and vinegar)
Salt and vinegar ringos
Sorbet twirl ice cream things
Celery
Potato peelings in the air fryer with spices on them
One potato cut into really thin strips and put in the air fryer with spices is good

Tbh the daily fruit consumption you put in your last post sounds absolutely fine.

You’ve got to be careful with fruit as a lot of it is packed with sugar. The best ones to eat are strawberries, raspberries, blueberries - basically any berry!

Cucumber sticks, carrot sticks, crispy kale, cherry tomatoes, gherkins all make decent snacks.

pecanpie101 · 27/05/2023 14:30

Thanks all! Really good advice. I'm going to swap a couple of snacks to veggies and see how I go

I’ve found using protein powder/yogurt reduces my need to snack.
