Personal trainer?

Does anyone have a personal trainer and do you find it's helping you?

It's such a lot of money to pay but I'm so ready to do this and feel I need some extra support.
Just wanted to ask for your stories and think it all over before I commit.

Yes I started with a personal trainer at end of March - I decided to use a small chunk of savings and put it towards my health and I honestly feel it’s the best decision I’ve ever made. I go twice a week doing an hour of weights with him and I also run a mile each way to the sessions and back. I’ve lost 2% body fat percentage and 2cm off my waist so far. I absolutely love going and to me it is worth the money. He’s teaching me so much about the correct form to lift free-weights, and about all the various machines - I’m really learning a lot and my posture has improved. I could only do 3 push ups at the start and now I can do 11. I love seeing the progress and my clothes fit much better. I feel so motivated to eat well between sessions because I think otherwise I’ll be wasting my money if I’m undoing all the work by eating rubbish.

Thank you @Snowpaw that's great it's done wonders for you. Talked it over with DH this morning and I've sent an email to one and have a free 30 minute consultation tomorrow. Here's hoping it'll do me good as I really need to do something about my weight now

I do . And I don’t regret a penny of it

I started with him in January weighing nearly 19 stone and very very unfit . I have a session once a week with him and it’s 150 pound for a block of 5 sessions

I’m now 16 stone 6 . ( losing slowly and gradually ) Much more fit and active . I go to the gym inbetween my sessions with him . I do cardio and lift weights . He’s positive and encouraging . Keeps me motivated

he does my weight and measurements every 2 weeks . Consistent loss of inches and weight every time .

I've used a PT in the past and recently did small group classes as a refresher (where the class size is a maximum of four but more often than not, it was often just me and the PT). The first time I worked with a PT for x3 sessions a week for four months until I felt able to train by myself. That said, I continued to see them once a month for another six month to revise my own workouts. I absolutely loved my time with a PT. I focused solely on (heavy) weight lifting and other resistance work, all things I would never have been able to do by myself.

In addition to the absolute attention and focus from the PT when you're working one-to-one, the real bonus of a PT is that it makes you accountable and ensures you don't miss classes due to the cost! At least this always motivated me.

I lost 10kg over 4 months with a fantastic PT. He advised me on food and portions apart from the normal exercise/measurements stuff. Life changing and will stay with me for life. I now know what to do to stay at my new weight. I've recommended him to several friends.

Today agree with all this.

I bought PT sessions a few years ago and it was the best money I've spent on myself.

8 years on and I've kept the weight off and continue to work out. If I could afford it, I'd still carry on as I found it so helpful.

Thank you everyone so much for your stories!
I had a consultation with a lovely PT yesterday and have decided to start with her on a 3 month programme. Very excited to get going and hoping to make some big changes slowly.

That’s great to hear. I am sure you won’t regret it.

My PT has changed my life OP. I never thought I'd be the sort of person who would enjoy it and had an image in my head of them being shouty/ pushy etc., but mine is nothing like that at all. She's extremely encouraging and friendly and we get on really well, we talk about anything and everything in our sessions so it's also like having a chat with a friend whilst I workout. It's great. I highly recommend it.

Hi; I'm a PT and can definitely say it's worth it with the right person AND if you are motivated to change habits as well x
