Anyone starting Saxenda on Monday?

Hello! Shamefully I've gained a lot of weight since having my son back in 2021. A combination of sleep deprivation and comfort eating and I'm currently sitting around 19st 6lbs (although could be more - im weighing officially on Monday)

Would anyone like to join me in my journey? I collected my pens today from Boots but as the dose goes up weekly I'd prefer to start Monday. They're in the fridge, I'm also going to eat the last bit of crumble before over hauling my diet!

I lost a lot of weight fasting a few years back so my plan is to stick with what I did last time, 1,300 calories a day, 2 litres of water and high protein low carb foods. Unfortunately I've tried losing weight the last year but I can't stop thinking about food and always feeling hungry which is where I end up sabotaging myself. I'm hoping saxenda will help me to stop the "food noise". I know it's ultimately down to me and it feels daunting! Anyway if you made it this far .... please join me Grin

Hopeful bump before tomorrow! No worries if nobody joins with me, as I'll still be putting my progress down anyway for anyone who may find it useful!

Hmm, I wonder why no-ones joined you? Is it because people are on Ozempic instead? What made you choose Saxenda? Did the NHS provide it?

I'm trying to find people to join me tracking weight loss by waist measurement only, you're welcome to join in.

Whichever methods we're all using, medicines or fasting or whatever, I believe the challenges are the same and the mental challenge of not getting overweight again kind of stays with you forever.

safey · 14/05/2023 11:32

That's a good idea!

I'll be watching.

Are you getting it from the NHS or privately.

safey · 14/05/2023 11:34

?

toooldtobeamum · 14/05/2023 11:43

Good luck! I think you might want to increase your calories - sounds odd but if they are too low obviously you will lose fat faster but it's a real struggle to stay on the low amount of food! You are much more likely to fall off the wagon if you are too restricted - well I know I am
I was heavier than you this time last year so it can be done!
I don't want to bore you but am happy to help you work out a decent deficit if you like x

friedgoldeggs · 14/05/2023 13:47

Hi @safey I got it from Boots online pharmacy 😊 I wanted to go with a reputable company to be on the safe side! Plus they're happy for me to pop in anytime if I have any questions. I used a discount count so paid £120 for 3 pens instead of £150. It's expensive but if it works then it'll be worth it. She did say it doesn't work for 1 in 3 people so I didn't want to commit to 5 pens, so started with 3 and see how I get on.

There is another thread currently going but I'll join yours as well. Hello! My pens are also currently in the fridge, I'm 'stalling', yet to start. Be nice to have a buddy.

friedgoldeggs · 14/05/2023 13:51

Hi @waistchallenge best of luck! I'd love to join you - I'll input my details tomorrow. I decided to go with Saxenda purely because it seems much easier to get hold of than Ozempic! And I like the fact Boots and Lloyds have been offering it for some time as a weight loss aid, I looked into it w couple of years ago but then fell pregnant with DS and since then my weigh has spiralled and I never feel satisfied.

Plus I did some research and it's still a good weight loss drug to try (and cheaper than Ozempic, although if I had the choice Ozempic would have been first!)

Hi @BeagleMum1 I saw the thread but it's a lot to read when you're a newbie hence starting my own. No more stalling - let's jab ourselves tomorrow Grin will you be injecting morning or evening?

Sorry I meant as well as the saxenda
I've tried that and also Ozempic in conjunction with calorie counting and exercise. Xx

BeagleMum1 · 14/05/2023 13:58

I think mornings will work best for me. I need to contact the boots online doctor as Im going away for 4 nights overseas in a couple of weeks and I won't have access to a fridge, so I'm thinking I will need to take a break. I want to run this past the GP, I hope that will say it's ok to do so.

I'm nervous about the injecting, I've never had to do it to myself before. How are you feeling about it?

Mammyloveswine · 14/05/2023 14:54

Not using saxanda but starting calorie counting! I've put on 4 stone so really need to get it off.., horrified seeing myself tagged in a photo on Facebook,, my face is so blobby!!

waistchallenge · 14/05/2023 15:54

and cheaper than Ozempic

Wow 😮
£150 is cheaper? And how long with those last? I couldn't pay that myself under any circumstances. I feel like the NHS should be funding this really.

justprance · 14/05/2023 16:45

I have an appointment on 14th July with an endocrinologist, hoping to be prescribed this too! So following with interest. (Am not in the UK)

The NHS should be funding this even though they already have weight loss options that are available to other people? When are we going to stop saying the NHS needs to fun x, y and z when they are struggling as it is but yes let's add more stress for funding 🙄 I need to start using Saxenda, I've been to the doctors and had orlistat and was referred to dietician and lost weight, I've put it back on in that time so now eating healthy but want to add Saxenda to it but that's MY choice so why would I want the NHS to pay for it? 🤨

waistchallenge · 14/05/2023 21:18

Why? Because the health problems which result from obesity cost the NHS far, far more than the weight loss drugs, obviously.

toooldtobeamum · 29/05/2023 11:16

How is it going? @friedgoldeggs
