Saxenda? Will I pile it all back on?

I need to lose about 8 stone. I am a chronic yo-yo dieter and struggling. I joined the gym recently but I am not using it more than once a week because I am anxious about going and hate it when I’m there because I’m too fat to do what I would like to do (I used to love running on the treadmill).

I’ve woken up this morning feeling absolutely ashamed of myself because I ate a 12 inch pizza and 100g of chocolate last night. So been researching Saxenda. But I have heard as soon as you stop it piles back on. My thoughts are loose enough so that I can begin running and hopefully when I stop the Saxenda the running will stop the weight going back on?

please can I hear people’s thoughts, I am feeling desperate.

I have similar to lose and I'm on omezipic. My thoughts were twofold

By getting to the habit of eating less I will have healthier habits which I then need to proactively keep to going forward

Even if I end up on omezipic for life its still probably healthier than being 8 stone overweight for life

I've been on it 4 months and I've lost a stone and a half. It's coming off slower than I would like but I know slower weight loss is better really

I find it helps me notice when I am full much quicker and I am less likely to ignore that. One of the reasons I'm overweight is that I have pcos and and underactive thyroid so I need a lower calorie diet to not put weight on. But my DH does most of the cooking and he serves up massive portions. I think over the years I have become terrible at pushing past when I am naturally full because I still have loads of food on my plate.

But for context I also had pizza and chocolate last night. But I only ate 2/3 of my pizza and a third of my chocolate without feeling like I was having to try really hard to restrain myself, it was just easy and natural

I'm not having pizza and chocolate often because I am trying to eat healthily alongside it, it was a celebratory occasion but I was pleased as before there was no way I wouldn't have eaten all the pizza without even thinking about whether I was full or not.

Well done! I also have an underactive thyroid, but only diagnosed with that since having covid 18 months ago. I’ve been overweight my whole adult life so 🤷🏼‍♀️

I've lost 7 stone in a year on Saxanda. 2 to go. I've had a break for a couple of months and put half a stone on. I'm chilled about it but I'm restarting today to get the last 2 off. I can honestly say it's been life changing.

I was similar. Five stone to lose. I’m also on Ozempic. Have lost three stone.

My thought process was that the medication would help me to lose. And then I will have to work at it to maintain the loss. But working hard at maintaining is going to be easier than the utter utter soul destroying slog of losing the weight in the first place. I know it’s a soul destroying slog because I’ve being doing it for years.

I went with Ozempic over Saxenda because I actually don’t eat loads. Never really did. Some things I will eat more of obviously but my day to day diet would be ok. So for instance reading slimming world or weight watchers magazines- my day to day diet was never the before one. It was 80% more the ‘after’. People commented that I don’t eat much.

I had read that Saxenda can help, stop bingeing and over eating. When I read that Ozempic worked on blood sugar I thought I would try that as I always figured it was more than overeating for me. And it’s worked brilliantly.

I took Saxenda Jan to Oct last year and lost 6 stone, since stopping I have lost a further stone & half and am now maintaining.
I calorie count every single day unless I have a night out and then I allow myself to enjoy the night and not count.
I have had 2 all inclusive holidays during that time and didn't calorie count then either just made sure I started again the minute I got home.
I also allowed myself a few days at Christmas of not counting.
I do minimum of 10,000 steps daily, I do a fast 3 mile walk 3 to 4 times a week and I strength train 3 times a week.
I don't recognise the person in the mirror or the person who loves exercise and going to the gym.
I am prepared to count calories and exercise for the rest of my life to stay this slim, strong and healthy.
Saxenda helped me to change my life.

Unfortunately I did. Lost three stone on it and loved it- the food noise was completely gone. Unfortunately I then got pancreatitis- I'll never know if it was from that or from a gall stone (it's listed as a possible side effect) but once you've had pancreatitis you can't have it again. Very sad.
It did take a couple of years to go back on though so fingers crossed for you all.
