TBH I’m utterly shocked at my weight. I got on the scales yesterday for the first time in 2 years. BMI is almost 33. I knew I’d put weight on but had no real understanding of how much. I think my eyes just don’t clearly see how big I am!! I need to loose 4 stone to get into an ‘heathy’ BMI and I’m feeling totally overwhelmed by it. Have been reading through various threads here about ozempic and saxenda. I just can’t cover the cost. Would the GP prescribe it? I don’t have any health conditions.

Just to add I exercise most days but do have a desk job. Snacking is terrible and portions too large for sure.

With only 4 stone over weight unlikely unless u have hbp and diabetes and yr BMI is at their threadbare hold, Google to check but even if fit criteria in some areas there is a 18 month wait.

I've read that GPS can't prescribe but they can refer you to a weight management service where you'd have the input of a dietician and other support. You've done the scary bit of weighing yourself and deciding to do something about your weight so that's a big step already. Break it down into small goals and be honest with yourself how you got to that weight. I do recommend speaking to your GP to rule out any underlying causes such as thyroid issues and to get a referral for weight management. You can do it! Just take it slow and steady. Small changes like increasing waking or swimming and adding in healthier foods.

No you won't get a prescription

You can get from boots paying using Klarna instalments though

OMalleysAlley · 09/05/2023 14:50

Surely you can try to lose weight the old fashioned way first, by calorie counting?

Sudeko · 09/05/2023 14:52

You can get it easily via private doctors but make sure you thoroughly research the side-effects and balance pros and cons in relation to your own patient profile.

BHRK · 09/05/2023 14:58

No not unless you have something like diabetes.
come on OP, I slightly despair of these posts. Go on a calorie controlled diet and exercise and you will lose it!
