Ozempic - long term weight maintenance

Has anyone been off Ozempic for a while and managed to maintain their weight loss? I’ve seen studies from last year that most people when they stopped the meds regained 2/3 of the weight they’d lost within 2 years.

i was thinking of starting ozempic but I’m a little worried. Anyone else felt like this?

Are you aware that there are very serious shortages of Ozempic at the moment? If you are then I hope you will appreciate that it is a very bad time to start, assuming you’re in the U.K.
I would wait until Wegovy is available in the U.K. though that may not be until 2024

I saw there are still some places you can buy it online.

Yes but if you read the Ozempic threads you will see that most people need to keep increasing the dose to maintain their weight loss and it sounds very hard to obtain at the higher doses. So then they face the likelihood of having to come off the programme before they are ready to. It’s a problem for people a few months in so it’s clearly not the best time to start.

Ok. Thanks for your suggestion. I’ll look into it. If anyone can help with my original question I’d appreciate it.

I hope this links works as it
Might be of interest to people about this topic. It's from the Zoe podcasts and It discusses ozempic, how it works and long term usage.

I would really like to try one of them but am wondering if I should treat the underlying cause first? My weight gain is caused by trauma, boredom, and developing binge eating during lockdown.

Studies have shown that most people do put weight back on once they stop taking Ozempic. This is because it works by suppressing your appetite and once you stop taking it your appetite quickly returns to normal. Not many people could afford to stay on it for life or would probably want to. It is currently recommended to take it for up to 2 years.

Although most people do put the weight back on, that is because they revert to their usual habits. So if you tend to overeat out of boredom or trauma etc, that will still be the case when you stop taking Ozempic, unless you resolve the reasons why you turn to food for comfort. Some people on the Ozempic threads are using the time on the drug to try to change their relationship with food and also to start exercising more as they become more physically fit.
They have a much better chance of success I feel than those that think they don’t have to change anything about themselves and can just let Ozempic do all the work. I expect that will work for a while but not long term.

where Can you get yours?

caringcarer · 06/08/2023 20:12

As I lose weight I am managing to do more exercise. I'm also seeing a dietician and keeping a food diary. I'm basically doing all I can whilst I'm on the drug prescribed by my GP to lose weight and learn better food and exercise habits. The Ozempic helps but you still have to count the calories and eat less and move more. I've had to go out walking to get steps in, even when it is pouring down with rain. Not just a shower but pouring down.

I think it works if you lose the weight and then maintain a healthy lifestyle. There’s some weight loss injection sites that explain where people go wrong and how to maintain the lost weight.

I'm just bumping this thread to see how people gave got on from last year.

Aea you all still using ozempic? Did it work/did yiu lose what you wanted? Have you come off it??

I'm morbidly obese so looking at this rather than surgery but wondering if it will have to be long term.

@MineMineMineMineMine

So I'm losing weight by a combination of Zoe and a weight loss jab. I started using Zoe for the first 6 months and then relaxed my eating regime slightly for a couple of months to check that I could maintain that weight. Now the last few months I've been taking a weight loss jab for a month, then two months off to maintain the loss, then another month on the Jab.

I was nearly 18 stone and had a BMI of 41 at one point. I've lost 3 stone so far, but have integrated the change in dietary habits along with slowly losing weight. The weight loss doesn't sound huge - but that's still a sixth of my body weight in just under a year.

I was considering surgery but this has been less expensive and forced me to address my eating habits. I did not want to fill in the Zoe food diary for the longest time and I sat with the box on the desk for 6 weeks before I opened it. But that period of reflection as to why I resisted starting was helpful to me. I'm hoping to end the year as 13 stone something (13.13 probably 🤣) which would be a loss of 4 stone in a year. I'm a week into a 4 week injections pen and I'm hopeful!

It's been a great way of losing weight and forcing me to reconsider food.
