I was told that I haven't lost the weight from when I was pregnant because my metabolism hasn't been kick started since having Ds2

Is this right and how can I get it going? I really want to lose weight.

hm...who told you that?

NAB3wishesfor2008 · 15/02/2008 17:24

I take it it isn't true then?

well Im in two minds about that piece of advice,
Id say its true because I was told after DS1 that 'nothing would happen before 5 months' and that was right, I was dieting like mad and going to the gym 4x a week,

on the other hand I would disagree with it now because Ive just had my second baby - well, 2 months ago. I normally find it quite hard work to shift the weight, but for the past 3 weeks I have been eating normally but cutting down on the junk I eat between meals, and exercising my 'Get back' video about 4-5 times a week. Ive already noticed a big difference.
By the way, this time, Im not 'dieting'/ starving myself.

dont know if that helps..

OH, I have to say I am not sure about the piece of advice in general, iykwim...I had very different experiences after my 3 children....and whilst forinstance for some women the losing weight easily when breastfeeding is true, I didn't quite find it as simple as that, and after having my 3. one I was unable to loose any weight, dispite "dieting" until after he stopped bresatfeeding altogether...

But, I don't think it's a general true thing, if that makes sesne...many women find it easier then ever to loose weight after having Baby's many others find it more difficult...hormones, etc...of course do effect us, so, does the general way of life we have before and after having Baby's...so...really am in two minds about that advice you have been given.
But, I am no expert.

I put on pretty much the same amount with each birth, a bit more with number 3. Number one was a emergency c-section but I had lost all the weight by the time baby was 6 months and I breastfed him until 7 months. With number two it took until she was 1 and this time it is still there and I have 1 stone 8lbs to lose to get back to pre pregnancy weight. I have cut down on a lot of what I eat and I don't eat as much as before of proper stuff. I don't get breakast every day, lunch is either sald, soup or a sandwich and then I have a cooked dinner in the evening with hubby.

BTW It was the bra fitter in M&S who said it.

Bra fitter in M&S? a nutritional expert then?!

If you're not eating breakfast every day though, that could be what's stopping you from losing the weight.
You need to fire your metabolism up every morning or it goes into 'starvation" mode (where it retains fat rather than burns it) Shove some porridge or muesli down you - even if you don't feel like it.
Are you having protein with every meal? Protein also helps to burn fat (you don't have to be all atkins-y about it)

I know! She was an older woman and a mum so I figured she might know.

There just doesn't seem to be any time in the mornings. DH and I are going away on Monday for 2 nights and we are more excited about getting breakfast than anything else!!
