At what point did you lose your tummy fat

I have been on the 16:8 diet for 2 months and have lost 4.7kg and now weigh 56. 2kg with a bmi of 21.7. I am trying to lose another 4kg to get to the lower end of healthy bmi. My body at is around 26% fat according to army method of measuring (21% on my scales which I think are inaccuarate for body fat)

However I have not lost any weight at all from my tummy and my size 10 trousers are still uncomfortable on the waist.

I was wondering at what bmi/fat %people started to lose their tummy fat. I would love to lose the overhang on my trousers. I am doing some weights as well but I think any muscle would still be hidden under the fat. Any tips for losing the tummy fat would be great.

I’m a typical apple shape so only at the very bottom of my BMI because my tummy is where my fat sits.
Once I got down to around 19 I suddenly had a flat tummy.

bigdecisionstomake · 04/04/2023 15:58

Yep, same for me. I don't get a flat tummy until I'm at the the very bottom end of my healthy BMI and to be honest at that point my face is so wrinkly and gaunt that it's too high a price to pay. Embrace your tummy fat!

Onegingerhead · 04/04/2023 18:44

When I was bottom range of healthy, BMI of 18. Don’t know if it’s achievable now, in my 40s. Current BMI 22.4, fat flap of belly here

Harryisabollock · 04/04/2023 18:48

In exactly the same position and 40's also. Hoping another month will shift it otherwise I'm going to go for extreme options!

TomatoSandwiches · 04/04/2023 18:55

I find tummy fat is unfortunately the last place to lose it for the majority of women.

anxiouslemons · 04/04/2023 19:00

I lost my tummy fat when I had vaser lipo, which is prob not the answer you want to hear Grin
Slim limbs and a weeble belly was always my shape.

MYSTERIOUSGIRLONLINE · 04/04/2023 19:08

I'm coming up to 49 years young soon and finding it difficult losing weight on my tummy. I had 2 C-sections which has made it even harder to lose weight. I bought a Davina McCall exercise machine and some kettle bells so I'm going to give them a go and see if that'll help. I'd seen a video on TikTok a woman using kettle bells which looked effective. No harm giving it a go and see if I get this long awaited six pack I long for lol.

OwlsDance · 04/04/2023 19:08

Hmm, reported one post, and both got removed.

Most women will see muscle definition at 20-22% body fat. This video is very helpful in explaining everything

Can't Lose Belly Fat? Try this.

I used to fall for every single belly-fat burning myth under the sun until finally filtering out the lies from the truth and truly re-sculpted my body for go...

If you lose your tummy fat do you also lose your boobs?

bigdecisionstomake · 04/04/2023 19:27

@OwlsDance That's a really helpful video, thank you for sharing.

@Coffeepot72 In my experience yes, in order to get lean enough to start to get anywhere near a flat stomach my boobs shrink massively 😭

Wheretheskyisblue · 04/04/2023 21:20

Thanks all, looks like I will need to get nearer to 50kg to notice less waist fat. In peri menopause so think it will be a battle.

@OwlsDance interesting video, thanks for posting, will certainly continue with the strength training though think I will up the pace after losing a bit more fat first.

@Coffeepot72 I reduced a cup size when I went from 62kg to 57kg so yes sadly I think boobs will go first. Currently finding I am losing thigh fat which is nice but not as satisfying as the tummy bulge.

Depends on your shape

I lose weight lastly on my thighs - which are the largest part of me

Frustrating

Wheretheskyisblue · 31/05/2023 06:21

I thought I would update as I think the majority of my tummy fat has gone. I am now 52.4kg /bmi 19.8 and I looked at my tummy this morning and it finally felt flat (I may be able to pinch around 1cm of fat if I bend).

I am now working on toning and improving muscle as I don't feel I need to loose any more fat.

So yes it is possible as a peri menopausal women in your 40s to loose the belly.

Well done OP sounds like you've really worked at it. Do you mind me asking - are you happy with your shape now i.e. if you've lost boobs etc.... along the way are you happy with the compromise to get the flat stomach?

Just asking as I'm currently 22.4 BMI aiming to get to around 21 BMI and am not sure I'd want to go as low as 19/20 to get the flat stomach as would be flat on top too - it's a dilemma!

Wheretheskyisblue · 31/05/2023 13:20

@bigdecisionstomake I stopped breastfeeding at the same time I started dieting so I suspect my boobs decreased largely becuase of this. They are now back to the size they were before I was pregnant which was quite small anyway which never really bothered me.

I am quite happy with my size now but do want to put a lot more effort into gaining muscle. My bottom still feels flabby and I think I could do with gaining muscle everywhere for health reasons as I have weak bones/osteopena.

bigdecisionstomake · 31/05/2023 18:06

@Wheretheskyisblue that's interesting - thank you. I think I'm going to aim for a BMI of 21 and see how my tummy looks then. I'd dearly love it to be flat but just not sure I've got the will power to get down much lower than that.

As an aside, if you're looking to gain muscle I can heartily recommend Caroline Girvan's workouts - free on YouTube or there is a paid app. I've been doing them on and off for around 18 months and fairly religiously several times a week since January and can really start to see my muscle tone improving now, particularly on my legs. Still got to lose some more fat so you can see it elsewhere but it's definitely helping. Think you need some weight bearing cardio as well to help with osteopena.

Wheretheskyisblue · 31/05/2023 19:52

@bigdecisionstomake wow thank you, just tried her 'beginners' workout and it nearly killed me. Definitely look worth persisting with.
