If you're aiming to lose 2lbs per week

Please can you tell me a daily/weekly routine?

How many cals a day?

And what food you're eating for inspiration please.

I'm going on holiday in October and if I lose 2lbs a week I'll be around 12 stone which I know is still slight overweight but it's better than 16!

Thanks all :)

I've lost 29lbs since Jan 1st, so averaged around 2lb loss per week. Was 14st, now 11st 12. I'm 5ft 6.

Breakfast - boiled egg and fruit, tea with milk and sugar.

Lunch - Loads of roasted veg

Dinner - small chicken breast or other protein with veg.

I eat dinner early so don't eat between 5pm and 8am. Drink at least 3litres of water per day.

DP and I get chippy tea once a week Grin and I have a few g&ts on a Saturday night so I haven't been super strict 24/7. Helps keep me on track over the long term.

2lbs a week is a lot.
And how many cals is a little bit dependent on goal weight. If you say 12st, that's about 170lb so you could eat say 1700 consistently and would lose weight sustainably

mynameiscalypso · 02/04/2023 20:50

To lose 2lbs, you need a calorie deficit of c.7000 calories over the week. That means you need to eat 1000 calories less than your maintenance calories a day so you're looking at c.800 calories a day. That's not sustainable or healthy.

I thought everyone's calories were different, I did a macro calculator and it said my maintain calories was something like 2200cals so I'd have to stay within 1200 cals or is that completely wrong?

I am planning on going to the gym a few times a week but must admit it'll just be the treadmill and swimming for now.

I'd be surprised if 2,200 was your BMR unless you're really tall. It does vary from person to person but that's definitely at the top of normal for a woman who is a normal level of active. 1,200 is still fairly low daily calories.

I'm not overly tall but I am really fat but I don't know how it all works.

Maybe I'll try it for a few weeks eating 1200cals and exercising as I know you do lose a lot at first (not loads but a few pounds) and the up it to trying to lose 1 pound a week.

I guess any loss before October whether it be 2 or 4 stone is better than where I am now

1200 is very low and I can’t stick to that for long at all, so good luck. If you struggle please don’t just give up as it’s not 1200 or nothing. I tend to do about 1500 to 1800 calories as I can stick to that long term. I’m 5ft 3 and currently 10st 2lb.

I would suggest looking at YouTube workouts if you want to speed up the journey. Due to injuries I can only do walking workouts and do Get Fit With Rick ones every day or walking outside or both. There are different length workouts from 1500 steps to 10000 and the music is pretty good. There are other presenters but DH likes this one and will do it without moaning.

Good luck on your journey.

You need to cut your calorie intake/increase your activity level by 7,000 calories per week or 1000 per day.

BMR is your base rate. So that's how many calories you'd burn lying down doing nothing all day.

TDEE is the total energy expenditure and what you should be looking at when cutting calories. 2200 is about right if OP is 16 stone as they said.

1200 calories a day is a miserable existence despite what the undereaters of MN would have you believe. I'm losing an average of 2lbs a week on Slimming World. No counting for me.

mynameiscalypso · 02/04/2023 22:16

@Rollercoastertycoon Sorry, I got my BMR and TDEEs mixed up! Thanks for correcting me. Either way, 1,200 is miserable, you're right!

WorstMumSadMum · 02/04/2023 22:22

I did Slimming World and lost an average of 2lbs per week. Prior to that I'd focused on calories and I really, really struggled with it. At least on SW you can eat loads and not feel miserable whilst losing the weight. Sorry, I know that's not really what you asked! But worth thinking about if you haven't tried it before.

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 08/04/2023 13:03

Yeah, SW is really working for me. 2.5 stone off since just before Xmas. Tbh it's been really easy and I wish I'd done it sooner. Never feel deprived and I eat loads. I think it's like anything, it only works when you're in the right mindset to do it. I do it online as don't like groups.

I can't believe how little some people eat on MN, I'd be chewing the furniture, I need to eat big portions or I'm utterly miserable.

That's correct but 1200 is very low and unlikely to be sustainable. Try aiming for 1.5lbs and you'll probably succeed.

She's 16 stone. 2200 is perfectly likely. Mine is 2400 and I'm 13.5 stone because I'm active. I really don't know why people post things like this!

Now I feel silly because you wrote BMR and I read TDEE. But it's TDEE you need to pay attention to.

JoeLovesGina · 08/04/2023 13:08

I'm 5'6 and losing 2lb a week by eating approx 1600 cals a day and walking my 10k steps.

But as you weigh more than me then you probably will burn more calories too.

Fatasbuggery · 08/04/2023 22:48

I am much the same as you op. I need all the help I can get so will bookmark for now and engage better in the morning.

Hope that's OK.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 08/04/2023 22:58

I've lost 17.5lbs since the end of January. I'm having overnight oats from breakfast when I'm in the office mon-weds and fruity ryvita with laughing cow light, lunch leftovers, jacket, pasta, ryvita with laugni g cow and ham. Salad with all meals. I'm doing slimming world. Also walking 10000 steps a day, Burning 620 cals. Lots of water

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 08/04/2023 22:59

Height is 5'5", starting weight 13st 11.5 lbs. Currently 12st 8lbs

HaggisFace · 08/04/2023 23:02

I've lost 21lbs in 10 weeks on slimming world. Its worked for me in the past but I struggled with gaining weight again due to a health condition after maintaining for a good few years. Going back has really helped me as it keeps me accountable knowing I'll be weighed every week.

Maybe worth considering?

Hubblebubble · 08/04/2023 23:14

I eat around 1700 a day. I exercise consistently, 2 x strength (weights) and 5 x cardio a week (swimming and yoga). I've been losing about 2 pounds a week for the last month. I don't restrict or cut anything out, but I do try to base every meal around protein.

congratulations on your weight loss. What are your reflections on how many plant-based foods you are eating?

Firstshoes · 09/04/2023 10:14

I have started 16:8 eating 12pm-8pm which is working well for me as I've never been a big breakfast person. Swapped from white coffee to black which I am finding surprisingly okay. Trying to stick to 1200 cals a day. I've lost 4lb so far (over 3 weeks). Only 10lb to lose in total and I'm peri so happy with that.
