Ozempic Journey - Accountability

Obesetohealthy · 29/03/2023 12:09

Hi everyone,

I want to be held accountable and have a journal to share my ozempic journey with others. I started this journey because i need to lose weight as my husband and I want to try for a baby. However, my weight on the other hand is a nightmare. I have Insulin Resistance PCOS and any cysters out there I know we are in this together with trying to lose weight.

Current weight: 171.1kg
Goal Weight: 95.2kg
Height: 5ft 5.6

I had my first injection today. A dose of 0.25. I feel like I was expecting a miracle and instantly stop feeling hungry lol (I know that’s not how the injection works). Really hoping this works. Im going to be doing this with intermittent fasting 16:8 (eating window is 11am - 7pm), 2.25litre of water (hate water already😩)

Please share any hints and tips too!

Good luck I'm on week 3 and have lost around 7lbs already. You need to eat healthy, the Ozempic will help with appetite but stop when you feel full (which will be a lot sooner into meals than you're used to) don't make the mistake I made last night and stuff everything in as I was eating out and didn't want to waste! Woke up in the night with awful indigestion!

Re the water, spruce it up with sugar free juice, lemon slices, any fruit slices really or cucumber is quite refreshing. Helps with headaches and keeping your bowels regular. Also herbal teas can be quite nice, I like peppermint but you can get Al sorts of flavors.

I haven't changed what I eat per say, trying to make healthier choices just a whole lot less of it! Although I am looking to start to eat less carbs as a whole.

The appetite suppression for me means I am having fruit as a snack and one meal a day and that is enough for me. Just give it some time and listen to your body and you will find what works for you!

blindmansbluff · 29/03/2023 15:08

Did you get the ozempic prescribed or did you buy it yourself?

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 29/03/2023 19:04

Good luck to you. I'm three weeks in and have lost one stone.

Sleepdeprived42long · 29/03/2023 20:05

I’m one week in to ozempic and also have PCOS. I’ve been lucky with no side effects so far. I hope you find it as good as I have-I have lost that constant urge for sugar which I think comes from PCOS insulin resistance. I can now just eat when I feel hungry and make better choices when I do. I’ve not had that feeling of having to cut out sweet things altogether like I’ve done in the past with diets because I know what the slippery slope of sugar does to me!

My main tip would be-get a smoothie maker and make some yummy smoothies with some low fat Greek yogurt and fruit and add a big spoon of flaxseed-that’s definitely helped me to stay ‘regular’. Batch cooking and planning ahead for meals has also helped avoid reaching for the takeaway menu (and saved money!).

My first weigh in tomorrow morning and I’m fairly sure I’ve lost-I’m definitely feeling less bloated and I’m eating less and better! Good luck to you and hope this helps you achieve your goals xx

Hi,

I bought it but had a private consultation with my GP to talk about my options. I really don’t want to have surgery. So praying this works

Thank you so much! Will definitely look into the juicer/smoothie maker.

@blindmansbluff Ozempic is not an OTC medicine, you can't just buy it, it has to be prescribed. You can only get it prescribed by the NHS for certain, currently restrictive issues, for most of us we need it precribed privately as an off-label medicine. This could be by a visit to a private GP or via a number of licenced internet prescribers such as Manual, My Juniper, UK Meds etc. It may sound from posts here that people are simply buying Ozempic but they are actually having it prescribed.

This is very correct. I just read my message. Apologies if it was misleading. I had it prescribed but not my main GP. A dr prescribes it and it was sent to my home address. My GP and I will be having monthly appointments to see my progress and again monitor for side effects. Please let's be careful when buying things from online - check if the organisation is CQC registered, use reputable companies.

Not at all @Obesetohealthy, your posts were clear. It's just that most of us are guilty of saying "I got it from" or "I bought it from" forgetting that many people don't understand that someone, somewhere still has to prescribe it.

summerlovingvibes · 30/03/2023 16:03

@Obesetohealthy I just started today. BMI of 38. Same as you re: private prescription from online GP. Joining your thread so we can do the journey together!
How are you feeling today?

You've got this!
Today's been a good day. Ive had this full feeling generally. At some lunch but only stomached 5 mini wings. Making sure my fluids intake is still good. Did have some nausea earlier but had some chewing gum which helped. How have you been?

Thanks for the clarification both. I spoke with my diabetic nurse yesterday and she said the GPs at my practice wouldn't prescribe it for me. Are you all getting it as a first line of medication or have you tried other things first?

I was prescribed Orlistat tablets last year which I found very uncomfortable. Anything I ate no matter how little the oil I would leave big oil stains on sofas, bed or car seats. Very embarrassing. Stained many bed sheets. Had to stop because of the side effects. Other people have taken them and been fine but unfortunately for me it was a no no.

Hi everyone,

Update: so I've got this constant feeling of being full. Even after water. Staying on top of my water intake. Did have a sweet tooth (period cravings) and I definitely over ate which led to me having diarrhoea and some nausea. Feeling really good though.

I was tempted to jump on the scales this morning but I'm going to resist it. I'm going to jump on the scales on the 5th. Which will be exactly one week post first dose.

@Obesetohealthy I was similar in side effects. Also waited ten days to weigh in as worried that if I didn't see a big loss I'd panic. I needn't have worried, I lost 9lbs in that first ten days. Week after was 5lbs.

I think it's only recommended for 2 years, I am 1 year in and lost 1.5 stones, all at the start. I will be coming off it I think (prescribed by my GP as I'm diabetic too) as I don't see the point of continuing if other medication can bring my sugars down without potential very bad side effects.

FatAgainItsLettuceTime · 02/04/2023 09:16

First dose was Friday night. Also have insulin resistant PCOS so low carb is the plan to go alongside the Ozempic.

I am very target/numbers driven so have dusted off my weight loss spreadsheet and set myself lots of small goals.

Starting position on 1st April.
Weight - 232 lbs
Height - 5ft 8in
BMI - 35.1

mumwheresmyribena · 02/04/2023 09:34

@mrsorangepyjamas
It's not really that it's only recommended for 2 years; it's that NICE have only approved Wegovy for 2 years for weightloss. Other Semiglutides for treatment of adults with insufficiently controlled type 2 diabetes don't have the 2 year limit.

NICE are the body that approves and recommends usage for drugs in the NHS, not privately prescribed. They are firmly evidence based which means their decisions are based on evidence that exists at the time of the decision. Wegovy only has a short history of being used solely for weight loss so that's what the decision was made with. NICE regularly revaluate their decisions to take new evidence into account. The rules around Orlistat and Viagra have charged beyond recognition in 10-20 years.

Obesetohealthy · 05/04/2023 21:57

Update: hope you're all doing well? After having a couple of days of thinking is this really working lol! Today and yesterday I've noticed my appetite has gone. Even drinking water fills me up. I decided to not weigh myself today because if I'm honest I know I haven't lost anything and didn't want to be disappointed. The nausea has gone. I have a day trip to a theme park with my nephews which I'm dreading because I know I won't fit on any of the rides. Fortunately, my brother has agreed to be fun uncle and tag along. I really hope come summer I can fit on the seats at Thorpe Park again.

Hi @Obesetohealthy ... I've just taken my second dose this morning and can't say it's working for me yet. The first couple of days after the first one I thought I felt less hungry, but then I just went back to normal and have felt like I normally do the rest of the week. But from research it sounds like for some people it takes a while to start working. So I'm going to stick with it!

mrsm12 · 06/04/2023 18:34

As a fellow pcos sufferer, I'm a year on ozempic, have lost 5 stone, my periods are regular, my blood sugar levels are perfect (were pre diabetic range) and blood pressure is perfect again.
It's not an easy fix, the nausea was awful for me and still is if I eat too much carbs but it was so worth it. I'm back with my doctor next month to discuss weaning down as I seem to have peaked and not lost anything the last 2 months.
Best of luck!

Obesetohealthy · 12/04/2023 10:33

Hi everyone, guess what I've lost 2kgs in one week. I know it might not be much to some but I'm so happy. I was feeling downcast thinking it wasn't working last week but I've kept going. I've ordered my next dose of injections because I'm travelling. Honestly so happy
