May I join? After a sad breakup last year, I lost all interest in myself and just focussed on my work (sedentary) and kids. At the time I was just under 90kg, 5ft 6 and hoping to lose 7kg. Weighed myself today after being unwell for the last month and I'm 98.5kg. It really was a huge shock.

What I struggle with : trying to meal plan for me and my young children. If they weren't around, I'd eat lots of meat and salad but instead I make things like shepherd's pie or curries so they have a rounded meal.

Daily meals :

2 scrambled eggs, cream cheese, 2 seeded rolls from COOP.

2 cups of chai with sugar

250ml water

40min lumbering walk : 10k steps

Dinner : chicken curry and a heap of rice

Any tips would be greatly appreciated

I typed a big long post about how your rolls were too calorific (408 cals for 2co-op seeded rolls), the cream cheese is an unneeded add on (85 cals for 30 ish tiny grams), heaps of (white ?) rice is calorific but the page reloaded and it vanished. Is the curry home made, jar sauce or ready meal? How big is the portion?
It’s a lot of simple carbs which is sugar and, in excess, is stored as fat. You gave no mention of any veg. Shepherds pie and curries are perfectly fine as long as there isn’t loads of butter in the mash, you control your portion sizes and fill up with veg.

Fill up with high fibre foods and lean protein. Have wholemeal toast (no butter) with plain scrambled eggs and cut out sugary tea.

Where's your fruit, veg and fibre? Come over to the LOSE IT thread and join us. It's a healthy lifestyle changes for weight loss support thread. You'd be very welcome.

Failing that, work out your tdee and go from there using my fitness pal.

@AutisticLegoLover @Youvebeenseeingsos yay! Thank you so much. I think I thought the rolls would be a simple treat but yes, it's huge calorie wise. I'm thinking now just to have the eggs or maybe do a frittata.

Curry can be homemade but sometimes I use the pastes.

Veggie: I tend to use mixed veggies and put it in with the rice or pie. But yes, doesn't sound enough at all.

Off to join that thread!

There's nothing wrong with Shepherds pie or whatever. Serve it with lots of veggies- typically ours has carrot in and we have peas and sweetcorn in it.
The children can know that mum (I'm assuming) is trying to eat well. That doesn't mean eat nothing, it means eat for health.

It also means making an effort to move. Having dogs helps us here- they need to get out every day- 5yo DS is often reluctant but really enjoyed the hour we were out and about this morning.

250 ml water??? Is that all??? Wowsers, I've usually drunk double that with my breakfast. I get migraines if I don't

Hellenabe · 19/03/2023 19:28

@Harrysmummy246 yes the water thing is terrible. I wasnt well for a while and tea became a comfort thing plus cleared the airways. I then didnt drink any water. I'm really getting on it now! And no more tea or rolls....

@Hellenabe don't say 'no more'- it's a sure fire way to mean all you can ever think about and end up overeating.

Reduce, sure, but banning isn't going to be helpful....
