Has anyone actually gone from a sugar/fat fiend to a consistently healthy eater?

A lot of us are here to lose weight (obviously), and that for me just now feels like an eternal struggle I just cannot change. So my question is...has anyone like me (a 3 stone overweight, sugar craving, alcohol laden mid 40 something) successfully switched to become a consistently healthy eating, healthy weight range adult (while still enjoying life!). I'm feeling some fed up with what appears to be my complete inability to go even one day without falling into a sugar or alcohol induced stupor. I love exercise. I love feeling fit, but I feel so removed from the person I used to be I'm not sure I'll ever find my way back

For a good couple of years, even through pregnancy I ate really healthily without having to think about it, but since DC was born I have turned into a sugar addict again 😢 I'm hoping when I stop BFing I'll lose the sugar cravings and can lose the 2 stone I've gained.

I've pretty much given up alcohol- a couple of glasses at Christmas, and a sip of DH's beer if it looks interesting.
I've given up cola a couple of times now, and stayed off it for a year or two at a time.
I've given up caffeine.

Fat and sugar I'm struggling with. I'm currently working on ditching sweeteners as I think they make ditching sugar harder. Once sweeteners are gone, sugar will be next. Then bread.
If I still have weight to lose, then fat will have to go too.

That will leave me with fruit and veg, meat, and moderate cheese/nuts. I really hope at that point I'll have basically stopped the cravings and excessive appetite, and be a more moderate eater who can sustain a healthy BMI.

I'm not overweight per se but have pretty much stopped eating sugar and fat as was worried about my cholesterol. I have to say I can't stand eating much of it now as it just makes me feel so sick. It's been a revelation I must say

I did, I did whole30 and ended up doing almost a year without sugar, grains or dairy. After being a total binge eater and sugar junkie all my life, I felt so free and I felt so healthy. I then gradually tried to reintroduce these foods because I missed chocolate and … yeah… a year on I’m a stone heavier and I feel like crap again.

I think giving up alcohol might be key to my future success! As soon as a drink touches my lips I literally cave and eat ALL the food.

But then I love a couple of drinks on the weekend and the thought of giving it up long term makes me feel sad.

Looking through other threads etc I just thought...what are my chances of actually changing my lifestyle for the better and for the long term. It seems an eternal struggle for so many people.

Yes! After a lifetime of yo-yo dieting last year I (reluctantly) tried Noom, lost 4 and 1/2 stone by Christmas and have kept it off since, my mind set and tastes have completely changed, I do still have sugar and fat and enjoy my holidays/weekends but automatically make better choices now without thinking about it…. Might not work for everyone but definitely has for me

Alcohol is definitely my downfall. I don't drink much or often, but once that first glass of wine hits the spot the crisps and the chocolate soon follow!! Will power just goes out of the window 🤷‍♀️

I love sugar and fat. I ate a box of gulub jamon and a 2 of those marshmallowy squares the other day.
However I’m thin with low cholesterol.
I never think about restricting food and it was only when I was reviewing a dissertation I realised I do intermittent fasting. It’s easy- just don’t have breakfast. I don’t drink at all- that’s a lot of sugar and craving I avoid.

Tbh I don't think you can realistically give up everything and expect it to work long term.
I've lost loads of weight in the past and put it all (and more) back on!
I think you have to recognise what makes you eat badly and change things a bit at a time. I only drink alcohol at weekends now and only stuff like gin, not sugary baileys and tia Maria. I've cut down massively on sugary snacks. I eat low carb bread - not as nice as normal but does fulfill the desire for a sandwich.

I don't think giving up fat is good tbh, it's filling and not bad for you - what's bad is the combination of fat and sugar, so cakes and processed carbs. I still eat, butter and cheese, what I don't do now is have cake as well!
You have to find a way to live that you can stick with.

Low alcohol drinks are really getting better.
Sainsbury's English Cider is particularly nice and it doesn't lead me on to salt/fat/sugar cravings. Start gently and be kind to yourself.

Also what has worked for me is a kind of simple repetitious meal plan (not a diet)
So no breakfast .. just tea and coffee.
Some protein ie chicken breast plus loads of veg for lunch and a yoghurt.
Carbs in moderation in the evening ie a tuna fish and salad sandwich and unsalted nuts plus fruit.
Similar every day but vary the protein.
It stopped me from worrying/ thinking about food.
