Juniper or Saxenda

I apologise as this has probably been done to death but it would take forever to go all the way through the posts.

I was wondering if anyone has experience of both of these as I have no idea which one to choose. I like the idea of a weekly injection (Juniper) but if it isn't going to be as effective I'll happily go with Saxenda.

My BMI is 33.7 and I need to lose around 4-4.5 stone.

I also take Citalopram so not sure if I'll even be allowed to take either of these.

Thanks for any advice.

Juniper is the company name, ozempic is the drug name. I would advise you to read up on both drugs thoroughly because they are not without risk and ozempic is currently not licensed for weight loss so is being sold off prescription. The research studies show that people gain back most of the lost weight once they stop the drug too. There's long running ozempic threads on here you might like to read. You'd be very welcome on the LOSE IT threads that focus on healthy lifestyle to lose weight. I'm on there and it's lovely and supportive and very focused on positive changes and long term goals through healthier choices. Whatever you decide, good luck.

I thought this was a baby name thread 🙈

@thirdistheonewiththehairychest 🤣

Ozempic (Juniper) has better results over time than saxenda but currently isn't approved for weight loss in the UK.

I'd wait for Wegovy to be licenced in the UK if I were you. It will be some time this year. Its the same drug as Juniper but in different doses more suited to weight loss.

The other issue I have with Juniper is that's its a set cost each month regardless of what dosage you are on so its a really pricey way of doing it of you don't need to go to the max dose.

If you can't wait for Wegovy then I'd try Saxenda and start at the lowest dose. You'll get a good idea if it works for you and you can switch to Wegovy once it's approved.

I also came on because I thought it was baby names. Jupiter for a boy is nice, I think. Saxenda might end up with some weird nicknames 😂

noimaginationforausername · 02/03/2023 22:45

Thanks for the sensible replies, I think maybe I'll give Saxenda a go even though husband is not happy with idea and reckons it's a gimmick.

I'm fat and miserable and nothing works, I'm so bloody fed up.

I am on day 4 of Saxenda and can honestly say it's a game changer! I opted for Saxenda as I was worried about side effects and having to wait a week for them to wear off with Ozempic whereas Saxenda is daily. Anyway I have lost 3.5lbs in 3 days. It is just the weirdest feeling to not be obsessed with food anymore.

I was a stone overweight pre-lockdown and then put on another two stone and literally have tried everything to shift it but it has just been a constant yo yo of half a stone off, half a stone on. It's been making me really miserable.

The last 3 days have been revelatory - literally just not that bothered about food anymore. I eat it but can easily stop. I had half a packet of low fat crisps and put the rest back in the cupboard. THIS IS UNHEARD OF for me. Before I would have put them away and then kept going back until I eventually finished them. I just forgot about them - so weird!

Anyway I know it is early days but this is my experience so far. A friend told me to try it after she had seen 2 of her friends drop their unshiftable weight successfully using Saxenda. HTH

I'm on day 3 of Saxenda and so far I'm feeling pretty positive about it. It's extremely easy to use, my cravings are gone, I feel I've more energy and I haven't really had any side effects apart from a tiny bit of feeling nauseous in the morning.

Mimsulu · 15/03/2023 09:14

I’m on day two of Saxenda and already feeling a difference. No cravings and am eating less than normal. Bad acid reflux/nausea/bloating so far but no other side effects. Fingers crossed this helps as I need to lose at least 2 stone.

FatGirlSwim · 15/03/2023 09:20

Saxenda worked really well for me. Ozempic didn’t and was more expensive but that could be because I’d built up a tolerance to saxenda.

smm88 · 15/03/2023 09:25

I am currently considering both aswell.

How much are others paying for both ?

noimaginationforausername · 20/03/2023 09:41

Ok I decided to go for Ozempic and I've just done my first injection.

I paid £150 for the first month as I had a referral code and after that I think it's £195 a month which just seems ridiculous but if it helps me lose the weight then it will be worth every penny.

Good luck to everyone else 🤞🤞

Hi, can I ask how you got on with ozempic please?

noimaginationforausername · 27/08/2024 08:39

@Lauralizzie Hi, I have to be honest and say I barely lasted a few weeks on Ozempic as I felt so awful. I felt sick and dizzy, it messed with my IBS horribly and I just couldn’t handle it.

It really put me off of injections for a while but now I’m about 11 weeks into Wegovy and it’s amazing. I’m 27lb down with barely any side effects, a bit of nausea and constipation and some fatigue but they are bearable.

Hope this helps x
