Just wondering if anyone signed up to the Zoe app and lost weight? I’ve seen differing views and just really want to know that I will actually lose some weight..I’d like to be healthier n all, but I’d also like to be slimmer…

As an overweight woman with pre diabetes ringing in my ears from my last annual blood tests with the nurse I have found it incredibly helpful. The first week my spikes were going way off the chart but even now on day 10 I am keeping everything 3 points lower for spikes and can see my baseline has lowered so I am incredibly pleased with the results even though I'm not at getting my testing back. I think everyone should get a CGM for their 50th! It's been a big wake up call for me but the fact that I can change things is very exciting. Deffo going to get myself another CGM in about 3 months to see how I'm getting on.

I do think it’s odd that they don’t even offer retesting at a price, let alone include it in the package. Without that, who knows whether the new eating habits are beneficial, particularly if many people don’t lose much weight, which is the most easily observed change. I hear they’re considering this but how long it will take is mysterious.

JudyBlumesBlubber · 07/04/2023 07:40

I wondered about the lack of re-testing too. Is it because it’s sheer proof either way and that could be problematic?

For those who have lost weight, did you preciously eat ultra-processed food/takeaways/sweet things? I wonder if my lack of weight loss is down to already eating quite well. I’m now eating MORE salad and veg and have added Kefir and seeds to Greek yogurt but it’s no game changer.

JudyBlumesBlubber · 07/04/2023 07:40

By the way, I also rated the testing phase amazingly.

JudyBlumesBlubber · 07/04/2023 07:41

Previously not previously!

stepstepstep · 08/04/2023 08:09

I did my tests on Wednesday and now on day 3 of food logging. I don’t think my blood test will have worked because it took me ages to squeeze out enough blood! On the other hand I’m loving my glucose monitor, I’m obsessed with it & keep trying to show DP the graphs. He is not interested 😁

I’m fascinated by the fact that my blood sugar is pretty consistent all night when I’m not eating anything & then as soon as I have breakfast the graph looks like a rollercoaster until bedtime. Looking forward to finding out how to smooth that out a bit.

There's someone in the fb group I'm on that is part of ongoing research by Zoe and is retested every 4 months - on one of the podcasts I listened to they did say they wanted to offer retesting after a year ( IIRC) but it seems to be a capacity issue with the labs able to do it - which is why there is a waiting list already I guess.

There must be rival companies that just give you generic (not personalised) advice, you could get tested with them repeatedly / when you liked to see if concentrations change in response to other diet changes. Also, does Zoe actually say something like "Eat more peppers to get more Hannah in your gut:" or whatever good/bad thing. Maybe other companies do that.

I wonder if proportions of good/bad microbes change anyway fairly frequently, who's to know if the 1st snapshot you get is a really representative one.

No one else has access to the PREDICT study data that they base their modelling on. Some of us are also enrolled in PREDICT 3 blood glucose monitoring. One of the strengths of their modelling is that they have a very large data set for their machine learning AI to work with. As more people go through the programme that data set gets bigger and more useful.

whatnowreally · 12/04/2023 22:29

If anyone could do me a photo of the instructions- took them out of the zoe box and lost them!

Madcats · 13/04/2023 15:34

I'm pretty certain that everything is explained in the videos @whatnowreally (which of course I looked at afterwards). I've just retrieved the instructions from our recycling if you want them.

Bearpawk · 13/04/2023 15:47

Hi all 👋 would anybody care so share a screen grab if their average day from the cgm ? Mine are all between 4 and 9 so far but feel very up and down throughout the day - I'm quite surprised

Bearpawk · 13/04/2023 15:48

@Bearpawk yes that looks normal

Nonnjo · 06/06/2023 10:04

Has anyone else found the Zoe muffins disgusting - I have just started day one. Finding the glucose monitor really interesting but need to run it longer to get a better idea.
had the muffins this morning - they were disgusting - overly sweet, dry, mouth dessicating 🤮I was following the app and after the first one clicked the adjust button and it suggested I try again!! I managed all three but not in 15 minutes- took about 20/25 with a huge amount of water - which is lucky for the blood test later !!! Hope the lunch muffins are better - at least there are only 2!

Madcats · 06/06/2023 11:12

I hate to break it to you, Nonnjo, but I didn't really spot the difference. I am a black coffee drinker so that certainly helped.

Nonnjo · 06/06/2023 12:35

Well thanks for that! But no thanks!!! Seriously, I wasn’t expecting a huge difference but at least there are only 2 not 3!!
have you had your results back yet???!

EmotionalSupportWyrm · 06/06/2023 16:48

Vanilla flavoured memory foam eh @Nonnjo ?

Some people claim to like them 🤷‍♀️

Nonnjo · 06/06/2023 20:32

That is such a good description - I couldn’t work out how it was sucking all the saliva out of my mouth!!! Glad I’m at the end of the day but disappointed I can’t make a group of ingredients into one of my recipes- they say this will change once I get my results back

LulooLemon · 06/06/2023 20:53

I think Zoe needs to stop referring to them as muffins. This just builds unrealistic expectations.

They should call them 'Metabolism Test Materials' or 'Personal Nutritional Response Compound'.

Stravaig · 07/06/2023 09:13

I've been keeping an eye on Zoe. I'm interested in the concept of personalised testing, it seems to be the right direction, but not quite there yet.

I do understand that they need raw data, and that some form of standardised testing is helpful. However I rarely eat bread or cake or any processed carbs, and i don't fancy backtracking and eating muffins for a whole day, just so Zoe can measure my response, and tell me what I've already worked out for myself, and don't do anyway!

Same with what sound like the comparative swaps(?). If you can choose your own, great. Can you? It might be helpful for data to confirm that my body has a better response to a vegetable frittata for brunch when it's not followed by equal calories chocolate. (Totally random example, never happens.) However the swaps mentioned here I already know the answer to, both directly from my body, and from science.

I agree with pp about the need for more public facing information about what's involved, before signing up, it's currently very opaque.

So I'm following, with interest, from a distance. Until it can start where I already am, and build on that.

EmotionalSupportWyrm · 07/06/2023 10:44

It's been shockingly and pleasingly life changing for me @Stravaig

I had a pretty good diet - lots of plants but - I now realise - boringly predictable and lacking diversity.

I'm "out the other side " no longer logging or scoring - my cupboard is full of interesting new (and old) pulses and nuts. I'm genuinely not hungry these days - once I've had a meal I feel no urge to snack later.

Loving the new food choices, have got into the groove of ADDING more foods into a meal - making pesto from different herb combos, muffins with multiple nut, seed and spices added.

I feel fitter. Healthier - and I've lost about 6kg - BMI gone from 22 to 20.

I do try not to be too evangelical about it in RL - but honestly it's the best thing I've done for my own health . I happily go out for meals with family and friends - no such thing as falling off the wagon.

Stravaig · 07/06/2023 11:24

@EmotionalSupportWyrm That's really interesting, thank you. It sounds very much what I'd hope for, to check and improve on an already solid foundation.

It's just how to get there without having to introduce lots of foods for testing purposes that I already know I don't feel great on. IF that is indeed what happens - as I say, the public facing information is very lacking.

(I can't afford it right now anyway, but it is something I'd prioritise when I could, if I felt it was right.)

Leftoverssandwich · 07/06/2023 12:33

The muffins (which aren't really muffins I'd say - goodness only knows what they are) measure your blood fat absorption as well as your sugar response. FWIW my blood sugar didn't spike on them at all. My results showed excellent blood sugar control but only moderate fat control, and I've brought my casual use of fats right now - we tended to cook with them quite a lot.

I continue to eat far, far less meat than I used to. I'm no lighter (possibly because I haven't actually been following the app very well recently because of random life stuff) but this feels like a longer term shift for me anyway. Saying that, I went on holiday for a week, ate and drank exactly what I wanted to, and put on no weight at all.

Nonnjo · 07/06/2023 20:24

In early days of Zoe trial tomorrow is day 3 and next week start the sugar challenges - I have chosen bread & cheese (!!) I dare say I will be given further instructions but I was wondering if anything can be taken with the test food?? Can I eat my tests at midday - I rarely eat breakfast and I don’t fancy dry bread first thing - and also, what about the rest of the day????
TIA
