Stalled weight loss

I have at least two more stone to lose, after taking nearly a year to lose four, so quite slowly.

however it has now stalled. I am keeping to the diet and still writing down all I eat and working about the calories. It’s especially annoying as the extra weight is holding tightly to my tummy, it seems to like it there! I have tried dropping even more calories, upping them a bit, but nothing seems to work. I want to start swimming again but am presently recovering from a shoulder operation so this is difficult. I am 67 and this is really getting me down. Even a couple of pound loss would cheer me up. I do suffer from insomnia and this is supposed to make weight loss harder. I do feel quite depressed.

Well done on losing 4 stone so far, that’s amazing!

Plateaus are quite normal, how long has your weight stayed the same?
And when you’ve tried changing the calories, either up or down, how long did you keep going before changing again? Just wondering if you’ve given it long enough. How many calories are you eating every day currently?

I try to eat no more than 1,250 per day. The lack of weight loss has been around six weeks and I am beginning to wonder if I should just give up eating altogether! Not really, bit it does make me feel quite down.

Definitely don’t give up! The weight you’ve lost so far will be doing wonders for your health. Are there other exercises you could do, even just walking?

I am walking more.having my stitches out after shoulder op today, so hopefully will be able to swim soon. Too cold at the moment! Thanks

If you’ve just had an operation, I would personally spend a couple of months trying to maintain your current weight and healing. Maybe check the amount of protein you’re eating to check it’s roughly enough. If you can swim for a while, could you cold water dip for a bit instead?
When your shoulder is ready, I would try adding some weight training in. Great for keeping your bones strong and increasing muscle mass. I’ve only lost about 1/2 stone but gone down two clothes sizes having done CrossFit for 6 months. The stretching part of their warm ups has improved my flexibility so I’m not getting as many aches and pains which were starting to creep in as I’m getting older. I’m also getting some core strength back and can do things like bend down to tie up my laces without it hurting anymore.
You’ve massively improved your health by losing those 4 stone. It’s a fabulous achievement. If you shift your focus onto muscle gain - you will still slowly lose more fat and will gain lost of other benefits too.
