Exercise makes me starving and messes up my diet

So I am trying to lose weight and at the same time get a bit fitter. I'm a couch potato so I'm talking mild to moderate exercise here.

I've been doing really well with the 'diet' and have adjusted what I eat really well. Been eating heathily for 3 months and the weight is slowly slowly coming off. BUT as soon as I add any exercise - BOOM - I'm starving hungry and go way over my calories and the weight stops dropping. It puts me off exercising tbh. Is there a way to exercise AND lose weight or should I lose weight first and not do any exercise until the excess weight has gone? It's getting me down now because I was doing so well.

How much weight (lbs/month) were you losing before you started exercising, OP?

Exercise makes me hungry, too. I would stop eating completely if I didn't exercise.

I was losing 1lb a week on average, very ocassionally 2lb a week - before I started exercising

Remember when you exercise, your body retains water around the joints/muscles to protect it, so this also affects what the scales show you and why its not always accurte

Also might be worth measuring yourself, you might not be losing weight but you could still be losing fat.

Very good point.

Just add a couple of points - I used to go the gym three times a week, running 30 mins on the machine, so on. Didn't really lose much. Probably got very very fit.
However, if you do this a lot - then stop and just eat really healthily - brown rice and a bit of tinned mackerel or sardines for breakfast, with tomato and red onion, that kind of thing, it does fall off in time because you have that basic fitness. It kicks in.
Running on the treadmill only worked when I did interval training - so one minute at 8km/h or so, next minute at 13.5km/hr, so you mix it up rather than just plodding away boringly as a test of endurance or stamina. You heart beat will be the same at 8km/h and that's the main thing, no need to knacker yourself out.

It maybe thirst and hydration you need? Eat an omelette after exercise.

Oh and asparagus! Forgot to mention asparagus! Cook them in a pan with 1 cm of water or in the oven, and have them ready. High fibre, prebiotic , and delicious!!!

Very expensive though, especially in winter when it's not in season in the UK

Many people experience post-workout hunger because of our sympathetic nervous system. After we chill down, we must metabolize food to refill with energy. This is due to the fact that during vigorous activity, our metabolisms considerably increase in comparison to rest and continue to do so even after we cool down.
