Beans and lentils are always cheap, especially if you soak your own.

You could try bean and veggie stew with brown rice, rice and beans carribean style, hummus ect.

How about porridge for breakfast - thats very cheap and you could add dried fruit.

Also you could make your own wholewheat bread in a bread machine if you have one?

change to wholewheat pasta and rice. eat smaller portions of carbohydrates. porridge is great. home made soup is cheap and v. good at filling you up. stop eating bread.

porridge for brekkie, homemade soup with lentils for lunch and something like kedgeree for dinner?

knat · 07/02/2008 16:23

how do you make kedgeree? and any good soup recipes with lentils - i tried one this week and it was horrible!!!

schrooms - i have a bread machine but its fatal - i always end up eating more as its much nicer!!!!

any more ideas for lunch and dinners would be good

Water. Drink about two litres a day.

How about stews and casseroles? You can use the cheaper cuts of meat and bulk it up with lots of veg. Have just the stew and veg for slimming (make sure that you trim all fat off the meat) and give dd and dh mash as well.
I use the schwartz casserole mixes as they don't have too many syns on slimming world.

It's also cheaper to buy a whole chicken than just breasts. I roast a chicken one dat, use the leftovers stirred with a tin of tomatoes on pasta the next. Then boil up the bones ofr stock and add veg for vegetable soup to last 3 or 4 lunches.

I've made lentil soup yesterday. I also used butternut squach in it, carrots, garlic, onions, pots and marigold swiss veg boullion + carry powder, chilli powder and black pepper. most of vegie soups are good. You could use beetroot, carrots, cabbage, can chopped toms and spices or broccoli, carrots, potato 9you could use sweet pots instead of ordinary), carrots and coriander. i often add frozen peas or a handfull of oats.

I read that a little cream is good as it keeps you satisfied for longer. Low fat diets can cause depression.

Stairdemon · 08/02/2008 13:36

If the recipe calls for cream you can substitute it for the same amount of greek yoghurt stabilized with a teaspoon or so of cornflour... not nearly as fattening..
