What changed your mindset and made you commit/stick to weight loss?

I'm struggling to find mine. I can't fuind the motivation. It's a "should do" not a "want to" so I'm not having much luck even getting Started

Very high cholesterol level and being told off (nicely) by GP.

Sjanish33 · 23/01/2023 15:34

Being the heaviest I have ever been and just not wanting that anymore - feeling it in my overall health - I simply want to see what life is like without carrying all these extra stones - it is quite exhausting

tilestoclean · 23/01/2023 16:10

Joining an online coaching group and being accountable morning and evening to a supportive group of like minded people

SnakeOiler · 23/01/2023 16:11

Health. I don’t want diabetes, Alzheimers, cancer etc because I love biscuits.

Hi. Is this something open to others?

SapphosRock · 23/01/2023 16:29

The Louise Parker method really works for me. I like having two snacks to keep my blood sugar up and going low carb isn't too painful. It's definitely a lifestyle change rather than a diet.

TennisWithDeborah · 23/01/2023 16:50

I braved the scales 2 weeks ago for the first time in over a decade, and was horrified, ashamed, and also pretty scared for my life expectancy. Enough was enough.

The thing that had inspired me to weigh in the first place was an unflattering (but honest) photo taken a few days prior at a social event. In my mind, I was a person who was a bit overweight and could do with shifting a stone. But the reality of that photo was that I was a person who was much too fat, with associated health risks.

Walterwhiteswifey · 23/01/2023 16:54

Honestly it was seeing a picture of myself. I couldn't believe how big I got and why no one told me. I took a long hard look at my life and realised I was looking at diabetes and weight related problems in the future. I also still want to be desired and found attractive.
So March last year I started calorie controlling and have lost 3.5 stone so far. I want to lose 2 more stone to be the best I can be.

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 23/01/2023 17:05

I was heavier than I thought on the scales a couple of years ago. Me and a friend both started a diet at the same time, really helped having someone to talk to.

I just counted calories but wasn’t too strict, after 5-6 months I felt so much better in myself. More mentally than anything else, like I was the person I wanted to be.

But motivation doesn’t just turn up. It’s more self discipline at first before eventually turning into routine

Queenonfleek · 23/01/2023 17:12

Dexa scan to show true extent of body fat issue in techni-colour .. no amount of defensive dressing as taught to me by trinny and Suzanna could disguise that..

have made great but slow progress with calorie counting weights and accountability and a dawn realisation the mythical 2lb a week weight loss is just that .. takes me a lot longer and a lot of focus

lilireads · 23/01/2023 17:15

If you're peri or menopausal I'd recommend Pahla B fitness. She has a free programme called the 5-0 method and loads of workouts on YouTube (the 5pd ones are good). It's the only thing that has ever clicked for me.

Bowbellsx · 23/01/2023 17:19

Feeling the weight when I walk it’s a horrible feeling

onlyoneoftheregimentinstep · 23/01/2023 17:34

Reaching 50 and shopping for an outfit for a relative's wedding. I lost 3.5 stones over the next two years and have kept it off ever since (another twenty years). Having made the decision, you have to look on it as a lifestyle change and not a diet.

tilestoclean · 23/01/2023 20:31

@Lightsbonaza yes! I think there's a few around but I did the EC method. They have a podcast so maybe start by listening to that? It was £180 for 8 weeks. Emma storey Gordon is one of the two coaches and she has some great Instagram content too

Inkpotlover · 23/01/2023 20:33

Realising I am double the weight of my normal sized teenage DD who is only 7cm shorter than me. DOUBLE.

ARoughRide · 23/01/2023 20:34

Looking at DM and realising I didn’t want to become obese, hypertensive and need statins like her.

I have chronic health conditions that limit me somewhat, I did not want poor lifestyle choices to cause further health issues.

oranga · 23/01/2023 20:50

Giving up dieting and changing habits slowly and one at a time, At the moment I'm increasing fruits and vegetables in my meals and snack on a carrot or cherry tomatoes instead of terrible processed rubbish. It's not to say I can't have the junk food but I have to eat the veggies first then I find I don't want too!

anewlifestarts · 24/01/2023 10:56

@tilestoclean I've been considering the EC method and I enjoy the podcasts but it sounds like you have to be youngish and fairly fit to succeed. Emma Gunns talks a lot about it on her podcast, how it changed her whole outlook on dieting etc
I am approaching 60 and on a waiting list for new knees! Do you think it's doable with physical restrictions?

Yarrawonga · 24/01/2023 11:01

Not wanting to have to replace all my clothes.

I really do think it's for everyone. They provide workouts for people with back and knee issues. They are also very good at supporting women going through menopause. So many different people are successful with them, it's a true mindset change. I can't recommend it highly enough. Drop Emma a note on Instagram messenger about your concerns and she's pretty quick to reply.

tilestoclean · 24/01/2023 11:19

@anewlifestarts I mean emma storey Gordon not Emma guns

anewlifestarts · 24/01/2023 11:23

@tilestoclean Thanks for that, I will. I've been on the waiting list then offered a place and didn't take it up. You've given me the push to join the next one if they are happy to take me on.

Cookerhood · 24/01/2023 11:26

The thought of going away with 2 slim friends in June! I could do with losing 3.5 stone but am trying to go slow & steady. 9 lbs so far since November, but not much focus in December as it's so tricky then. I'm trying to have a net intake of 1200 calories a day,

Manzana · 24/01/2023 11:35

I was sent a photo of myself standing between two tall, slim people, I was 12 stone at the time and shortish, but also wearing rain gear, so looked even wider. It shook me and gave me the impetus to change, I have lost almost 2 stone since.
