Does alcohol hinder weight loss? Feeling really down

I’ve cut out crap and eating carbs for a week, but haven’t cut out the alcohol in the evenings. I thought by removing the constant snacking of cake/chocolate/crisps and cheese with biscuits, along with no carbs at mealtimes it would make a difference. I’m still drinking a few nights a week - wine and sometimes a spirit, especially over the weekend and I’m 2lb up.
would it be the alcohol? Feeling quite disheartened as feel like I shouldn’t have even bothered cutting out the chocolate which I’ve been craving all week :(

It's not alcohol. It's wine Grin

Stop drinking or swap to vodka with soda and a lemon wedge. Wine has a lot of calories.

Alcohol is full of sugar so yes it will do.

Alcohol is full of calories, not sugar.

Yes I think it must do. Even non alcoholic/zero stuff on slimming world has syns.

I am half a pound from 2.5 stone lost in two months.

I only had an alcohol drink a week out of the last eight weeks. I still lost but my weigh days were different over the Christmas period.

Of. Purse it does. Log your calories using MFP. If you are going to have a drink choose spirit with low calorie mixer. You are going about it all wrong though by cutting out foods you like making you crave it even more. You don’t need to eliminate it.

My current scheme (don't really need to lose more but don't want to regain, wouldn't mind dropping a bit more) is this:

  • weigh every morning, of course the number varies
  • have a threshold value which is about the top of the range I'm varying over at present
  • if today's weight is at or above the threshold, then today is an alcohol free day
  • if the scheme has me go a full week without an alcohol free day, reduce the threshold to a level that would have given me 1-3 alcohol free days over the previous week, make today an a-f day, and go on with the new reduced threshold.
May seem as bit elaborate but I think this is quite clever because either I keep my weight loss or I become teetotal! I don't want to become teetotal so this is a good way for me to maintain. At the same time I think there's something to be said for being able to make any day alcohol free, rather than planning certain days to be a-f in advance - avoids having certain circumstances where I always drink alcohol, and I think that's good. Having no alcohol on a heavy day helps the next day not be heavy partly because alcohol has calories as others have said, and partly because I feel incentivised to watch what I eat!

Perhaps a version of this would work for you?
