Did weight gain/loss change your periods?

I had a post in chat yesterday but didn't get much traction.

The gynaecologist told me my flooding periods were due to being overweight ( I'm about 17/18 stones)

I'm 52 and on HRT so it might be age. They have got worse, I've got heavier but Ive also got older.

Any thoughts?

I have PCOS, when I am heavier in weight they are further apart and heavier/more painful/flooding. I've lost 3 some this year and noticed a difference. I know if I can get back to low end of BMI they become light and regular, I'm also convinced that staying at a low weight helped me conceive easily despite being told I would need intervention due to the state of my ovaries. My other PCOS symptoms reduce the lighter I am too

I lost weight a few years ago, due to stress, and got down to about 8 stone. That meant my BMI was underweight. My periods stopped and never came back, now I am menopausal. As I was in my mid-40s at the time I will never know if it was a coincidence or not. I suspect I wasn't.

I was told my heavy, painful periods were due to my weight - they weren't! But the PCOS was.

I lost 6 stone and the PCOS was resolved completely, but further investigation showed the heavy periods were due to endometriosis, nothing to do with my weight whatsoever.

Periods were just as heavy and painful whether I was 14 stone or 8 stone.

My periods were always more sporadic, could never know exactly what date they would come but was always usually more than 4 weeks apart (BMI 40+) The actual period was exactly the same.

Got down to a BMI of 27 and my periods are like clockwork every 4 weeks. Which is bloody annoying as the date falls on my birthday, wedding anniversary etc 😑

Lighter or absent periods when weight was low or my exercise levels were high, yes.
