A three month home exercise overhaul / is it truly possible?

For various reasons I need to be healthier and fitter for the end of January.

I would love to join a nice gym and go to classes but unfortunately the only places nearby are a David Lloyd or a grotty council place!

So, home workouts and YouTube videos it is.

I would love to know from anyone who has managed to start and maintain a home workout routine? Is first thing in the morning better than after work?

I find ct5k amazing and it’s my go to when I need to loose weight and tone up. Costs nothing and fast results.
I just wish that each time I achieve my goals I stick with it instead of repeating it every few years.
Learn from my mistakes🤣🤣

First thing in the morning definitely, done and no excuses.

We've recently got a Peloton and I love it! So my advice would be an exercise bike of some description and have a look on YouTube for some spinning classes Smile

I actually really dislike exercising first thing on a morning, I'm more of an evening person. But you can try various times throughout the day and see what suits you best.

C25k and 30 day shred on YouTube started me on a really good exercise journey. And if I don't exercise in the morning, there are too many chances to get distracted/lose interest/too tired/ kids activities, so first thing for me.

What about Les Mills on demand, hundreds of workouts for lots of variety

That’s a great idea, thanks!

Sadly running is not my bag!

Look up Heather Robertson on YouTube, she does great workouts. Combine that with upping your cardio by going for walks, taking stairs, etc if you don't like running.

What about local classes held in church halls etc. I find I need the motivation of knowing a class is on at a set time to actually do it.
The lady who runs my classes does about 6 a week at different local halls and they are all available on zoom too so you have the choice but the key thing for me is joining at a set time. If I know they're on demand anytime I'll always put them off.

Hi op. I exercise at a "grotty council place", and actually more than one, cos my membership lets me use any and all the centres.

Loads of classes, huge range of activities, made some good friends there.
Exercising at home wouldn't (and didn't in covid) work for me, so luckily I'm not too good for the "grot"

Okay?

Highly recommend. Every type of workout from yoga to weights, low intensity to high, 10 minute sessions to full on hour programmes. Everything to suit your fitness levels and time restrictions

Definitely get it done in the morning if at all possible.
Make small changes and watch what you eat (are you counting calories?).
If you slip up, don't worry. Just start again, and keep starting again if you have to.
Good luck!

I also recommend Les Mills on Demand and have a spin bike bought second hand for RPM and also have weights dumbbells and barbells.

I also find getting my 15k steps in makes a massive difference so get walking as much as you can.

I would also remember that it’s easier not to eat the calories that it is to burn them off so if you are wanting to loose weight then make sure your diet is sorted out

I recommend the Peloton digital app subscription. Loads of classes including cardio, strength, walking, etc. Plus spinning if you have an indoor bike (if you're interested in this you can normally grab one very cheaply on ebay or Facebook marketplace).

The beauty of the Peloton classes is they use music you'll already know and you can select classes knowing the playlist. There's a wide variety too. This is what makes it much better than Les Mills for me.

I don't know how old you are but Pahla B does great work out programmes for perimeno/menopausal women. Short, easy and fun - 25ish mins each morning is a great start to the day.

I also like Rik Bueller's walking workouts - easy dancing to music.

Thank you! Smile
