And 62 kg

Is that an ok weight do people think?
According to BMI calcs it's borderline overweight but really struggling to get below it.

I feel ok, jeans slightly tighter than I'd like maybe

Thanks everyone.

I will measure my waist hips and try and work out body fat but I think deep down I know that I need to lose more and up my activity levels.

It's just I've got quite comfortable at this weight and I think I secretly wanted you all to tell me it's was fine so I can carry on being lazy 🙈

Used to be 56kg pre dc and that feels far out of reach now

I'm a similar height and my lowest ever weight was 65kg. I was a size 10, my friends and family were worried about me because I looked gaunt, especially around my face and neck, my body composition was spot on, yet according to bmi I was overweight.

Basically it depends on your body type and where you carry your weight. I have a fair bit of muscle and I have very short legs (trousers are a nightmare!) and a longish body (if I but petite clothes they are the right length on the arms etc but the waists are alwats too high) so will obviously weigh more than someone the same hight with longer legs.

iloveeverykindofcat · 23/10/2022 13:33

@Magenta82 I have very long legs and a very short torso for my total height. According to BMI I'm 'underweight' but my body composition is 'good' or 'fit'. I don't lack fat. First clue that BMI is rubbish should be the fact that its a 2 dimensional formula applied to a three dimensional object.

Woolandwonder · 23/10/2022 13:37

I'm 5 2" and about 61kg at the moment which is the most I've weighed for a long time. I'm carrying a lot of weight around my middle and thighs and don't feel v healthy BUT I don't exercise and eat too much sugar. I think I was fitter and more toned I wouldn't be so bothered.

Woolandwonder · 23/10/2022 13:38

Sorry that should have been 63Kg at the moment. Wishful typing!

Essexexile · 23/10/2022 13:47

I’m 5’ 0” and am currently 61k, down from 68k since August. Admittedly I have got a PT as I needed to be accountable to someone (amongst other reasons), however, I log everything I eat on My Fitness Pal, keeping to around 1300-1400 cals per day and I walk around 3-4 miles per day, up from around a mile a day since I started. I also do 3 workouts per week.

I’m edging towards a healthy BMI and have pretty much dropped a size.

Apologies, I’ve made this about myself but walking daily and having calorie deficit has definitely made a difference to me and walking is free!

LaraLei · 23/10/2022 13:48

I am exactly the same height and weight as you OP. I am 50 now and have to exercise a lot and eat very little to stay this weight. I am a size 8 and look very slim, but not skinny. I would look terribly skinny at 50kg and haven’t weight that little since I was a teen. Interesting to hear that people think these measurements are overweight. I know it’s top end BMI, but I honestly don’t look overweight at all.

I have very short legs compared to my torso too, I am basically a human sausage dog. I have never thought about how this might make me weigh more than someone the same height with longer legs and shorter body! I do carry a lot of weight on my legs though so it probably evens out (god, I sound like such a catch don't I? Grin)

Namechangefail123 · 23/10/2022 13:53

I think it really depends on your build amongst many other things. I'm 65kg and about the same height. I'm about a size 6-8, definitely don't look overweight.

I'm 5'1'' and 70 kilos with my clothes on (just weighed). I feel too big.
I'm on a mission to lose a few kilos now. I just stopped caring about my weight but now enough is enough. I walk everywhere, so it's the food.

WeAreAllDead · 23/10/2022 15:41

@Namechangefail123 do you lift weights? Your thighs look like mine did before I got ill and I did a lot of lifting.

My weight goes straight on my stomach, makes me look pregnant and on my thighs. I’ve also got a diastasis recti so severe that a few years ago I’d have been sent for surgery via the NHS, it causes back issues/pain and numerous other issues.

37 inch hips, 34 inch waist.

Gensola · 23/10/2022 15:45

I am also a size 8 at 58 kilos/5 foot 2. I carry weight on my legs (lipoedema!) which means I’m even a 6 in certain dresses as I have a small waist and narrow shoulders but then large thighs and calves. My calves are 15cm!

Namechangefail123 · 23/10/2022 16:01

@WeAreAllDead no I don't lift. I do a mix of HIIT / dance / Yoga. My dumbbells are 3kg each!

Do you mean 15 inches? I have measured mine and mine are 16 inches, although I am a size 14. I have always just had massive calves and legs, even as a kid, and because the distance between my ankle and my knee is so short, it makes them look even bigger!

My saving thing was that my tummy was always quite flat, but even that is going now I'm in my 40s 😣

Gensola · 23/10/2022 16:18

@Smilelesstalkmore omg yes I absolutely meant 15 inches 🤣 I wish they were 15cm. I can’t buy boots anywhere, it’s a nightmare. But it does mean that I fit into much smaller clothes than if the weight was elsewhere. Im
hoping to have liposuction on them as my condition means I can’t lose the diseased fat by diet or exercise, only surgery. But it’s eye wateringly expensive. 😩

random9876 · 23/10/2022 17:50

I say it to everyone - but if you aren‘t sure, get a DEXA bodyscan. Not cheap at £150 but can put your mind at rest from the health perspective. It‘ll show how much of your weight is fat and whether you carry it safely, and (if you do need to lose a couple of pounds) how many. The trouble is, at the BMI you are talking about, you could be a highly muscular lean person who carries weight safely in their thighs, or you could be a very slender, low muscle apple shape who needs to be 10kg less! No one size fits all sadly!!!

NeedleWielder · 23/10/2022 17:55

I’m just 5ft and 52kg and I feel “normal”, not slim. My ideal weight is 48.5kg which DH thinks is too thin 🤷🏼‍♀️ but I’m 49 and it’s really hard to shift the extra pounds off!

BackT · 23/10/2022 17:59

I'm a similar height and about 4kg heavier. I'm overweight but not fat.

TheOtherBoleynGirls · 23/10/2022 18:08

Gensola · 23/10/2022 12:04

I’m 5 foot 2 and 58kg, I don’t look overweight but I don’t look skinny either - interestingly at 55kg which isn’t really that much less I do look much much slimmer. I am hoping to get back to 55kg and maintain there. I had put on a lot through 5 rounds of IVF and was 68kg which was very overweight.

Similar - I’m 5’1 and about 59kg at the moment. People who’ve known me for a long time will probably think I’ve put some on, but people who just meet me would probably think I’m fine. I feel sluggish and would like to get to about 53kg I think.

iloveeverykindofcat · 24/10/2022 05:58

It's really best to use a formula that takes neck and wrist measurements into account. I've been researching this lately because I've undertaken a project to go from sedentary skinnyfat (not healthy, despite appearing 'skinny') to actually somewhat fit and lean. When you think about it, its pretty crazy to posit that two people of the same height have the same ideal weight if there's an inch difference in their wrist measurements. I don't know why we even use BMI.

Dontsparethehorses · 24/10/2022 06:11

Same height my ideal weight is 57kg but anything between that and 60kg I’m ok with. Currently trying to get back down from 75 and am 67 now so doing ok still fair bit to go!

Patienceisntvirtuous · 24/10/2022 06:14

I'm about 63kg ( I had to look it up as I don't know kgs!). I feel flabby and out of shape. I am quite muscular, but could definitely drop a few lbs and I am trying to. Lost motivation for being healthy recently.

A lot of it depends on shape and where one carries fat and muscle I think. I am thick waisted (apple) and don't have much in the means of curves. If I put weight on I just look like an upside down space hopper. If I had a bum/boobs I probably wouldn't look so bad.

WitchyMother · 24/10/2022 06:21

I really think your fat distribution, muscles and body shape influence a lot. If your clothes fit you just right, you will notice a 1 or 2kg gain or if you are 'skinny fat' or prone to bloating so don't just go by weight.
