I’m 53, 5’5” and am usually around 9.5 stone but, having recently developed an extremely sweet, perimenopausal tooth, the pounds have crept on.

Would love to lose 7 pounds by the end of November. Is this doable?

Remove bread and pastry from diet replacing with veg, salad and small amounts of brown rice

Get blender and for dinner fresh soup with small amount of meat and veg

If you have a sweet tooth try to minimise processed desserts and sugar. Instead dark chocolate with fruit. Or recipes with Stevia.

Really bulk up meals with veg instead of carbs

Drink strong green tea, if you don't like it you can acquire the taste and plenty of water

Avoid cheese, choosing ideally fish or unprocessed veggie meals instead

Why not join the low carb boot camp that starts tomorrow?

Bitterbean · 16/10/2022 21:13

Cut out sugar and don't eat carbs for evening meal.
Look up Rebecca Louise on YouTube. Do half an hour a day. It's not that hard. You can do 3 ten minute exercises per day, focussing on the body part you want to change the most.

Whitepouringglue · 16/10/2022 21:23

Really! Isn't it depressing! If you replace with a satsuma and cup of green tea you'll be dancing on the scales :)

I would skip fruit... Mango is delicious but you really can put on weight eating fruit. Be a pity to waste your gains.

I personally think fasting is a fast track to an eating disorder for many people and not worth the disordered approach to eating that it engenders.

Oh what tripe. Nobody gains weight purely through eating fruit

Whitepouringglue · 17/10/2022 19:22

Actually in countries where they have lots of exotic fruits they know perfectly well that you have to watch your intake of them. Lots and lots of sugar in some of them.

Kenwouldmixitup · 17/10/2022 22:51

Mango and banana - high sugar content.

Really?!?!
What the bejeebers can I snack on that isn’t a carrot stick?!

You could have some of the following!

Nuts, peanut butter on rice cake, jelly, yogurt (Greek ) with honey and seeds, small porridge, make some protein balls? Dark chocolate and green tea, drink water a protein bar.. and carrots!

BaconAndAvocado · 18/10/2022 14:33

nonstoprenovation thanks there are some great ideas there.
It was DS2’s birthday yesterday so I did have a slice of chocolate cake but, otherwise, I’m doing well.
Will weigh in on Friday morning 🤞🏻

You're describing important calorific pitstops for someone leading a very active lifestyle. The op is just snacking in front of the telly! Eating nuts, peanut butter and porridge may work fine as important energy food but this will sabotage her diet if she thinks she can snack on them like satsumas!

samthebordercollie · 18/10/2022 16:45

An apple a day has been proven to help weight loss. But just one, with the skin. I find that an apple and a small price of cheese is a really filling snack if you want something other than carrot sticks. I've had to ban almonds and cashews as once I start eating them I can't stop! I'm in for the half a stone too, I've just had a bunion removed and am very inactive compared to usual so need to rein in the eating(I'm used to running 9 miles every morning, cycling, swimming, walking) so it would be nice to maintain weight during convalescence!
I don't eat bread, pasta or rice, make a vat of soup and eat it every lunchtime in the winter, plus Greek yogurt because it's filling. Evening is light, small piece of quiche and green salad, or Dahl curry with green salad no rice. The trick is to find food you enjoy, a diet rich in proteins and good fats will fill you up which helps is reducing snacking.
It's definitely possible - I followed 5:2 one January and lost over 4kgs quite easily.

Thanks everyone for the tips and advice.
I’m very pleased to say that I’ve lost 2 pounds this week!

The main change I made was to cut down ALOT on the sugary snacks - biscuits, chocolate. I didn’t cut them out completely it had just one “treat” each day.

I also brushed my teeth before I sat down in front of the tv which worked for me! So nothing to eat after dinner.

I realise I won’t be losing 2 pounds every week but this has been a brilliant start 🙂

No sugar

  1. No dairy except milk in tea and coffee
  2. No carbs after 6pm
  3. No wheat or potatoes
  4. No alcohol

I also make a huge vat of veggie soup on a Monday and eat it for every lunch throughout the week.

^

I do this, but include potatoes
It'll melt offa ya!

BaconAndAvocado · 23/10/2022 15:43

mackthepony that is more or less exactly what I’ve been doing.
I’ve relaxed quite a bit over the weekend but will get back on it tomorrow.

If you drink, quit alcohol! I have put on shedloads of weight & my wine consumption has a lot to do with that.

BaconAndAvocado · 23/10/2022 15:59

I don’t drink.

Don't eat the sweet stuff in the evenings anymore. As it's just those that have provided superfluous energy, not having them will reduce it - add in a bit of exercise because it's important in peri and you should be fine.

JustJustWhy · 23/10/2022 16:07

Soup diet for a week - a few variations of this. I always lose about 7lb in a week. I've allowed a massive over indulgence this last couple of months so doing a week of the soup diet then will follow a sort of slimming world diet until Christmas.
