I have at least 100lbs to lose, and I'm ready to finally try! But honestly I'm so confused about the best way to do this- I know it basically comes down to eat less move more but there seems to a million different ways to achieve this! Any advice on how to start?

Well done for biting the bullet! I have 50+ pounds to lose.
Think about the diets you’ve read about and what you might think may suit you.
I’ve done extended fasting before (36 hrs 3 times a week) very effective but I didn’t feel I had it in me this time. I’m presently fasting 18/6 and also <800 calories during the week with 5000 calories over the weekend so I can enjoy more calorific food and some wine. Suits me.
You really should visit your GP because they ought to be able to offer you some support including medication if you’re interested in that.
You could also use an online tool to work out how many calories you’re likely to burn in a day, times that by 7 and you’ll have a weekly maintenance total; every 3500 calories per week less than that you consume should amount to 1Lb weight loss.
Celebrate every little victory, good luck! X

I’m in the same situation but started low carb high fat on Monday. I’m also joining the Mumsnet low carb bootcamp

I have a lot of weight to lose but also need to low my blood sugar as I’m pre-diabetic.

I’ve already lost 6lbs - just another 90 something to go…..

I have 70lbs to lose...and really cross with myself as I've actually lost this all before, but put it back on again over the past 5 years (hysterectomy followed by menopause...not an excuse, but this has not helped!)

My GP recently referred me to a weight loss support group run by the local council (I think??) It's called One You...I wonder if there's something similar in your area OP? I know that One You run support groups all over the country. I've found it incredibly motivating and the group I'm working alongside are all great...we meet via Zoom every Wednesday evening and it's led by one of the One You advisors. We get information through the post (a fab book/diary with lots of hints and tips in), recipes, there's an online 'gym' with classes that you can join from home. Honestly it's fab!

Ask your GP, and good luck, it's really bloody hard isn't it?

Well done for being ready to start.
I had 10 stone/140lb to lose and am currently over 90lb down. I use my fitness pal, nothing drastic I’m currently on 1640 calories a day and no formal exercise.

My main secret is to plan what I will eat the following day after dinner, rather than when I am hungry or triggered by stress, as I make much better decisions.

It is important to know that losing that much weight is the work of years. You will need time off, and you might sometimes need to lose the same stone twice, it’s not failure if you don’t give up altogether!

I wouldn't 'do' any 'diet'. I've done them all, they all work but they're all hard to stick to and very restrictive.

I'm sure you already know the foods you should eat. Just eat them and cut out all the crap.

Then start walking, couch to 5 k, anything.

Keep it simple. Worked for me.

Give yourself daily non negotiables. 1800 calories, 100g protein, 10000 steps, 5+ portions of fruit and veg. And plan plan plan. Treat any exercise you want to do like a work meeting so it has to happen. Keep it simple to start with. If fasting works for you then try to skip breakfast and wait until lunch to eat (but don't read into the nonsense of not even being able to have coffee etc, it's just another way of lowering calories and has bugger all to do with metabolism or insulin) If like me you love sweet treats don't try to cut them out but plan them into your day. My fitness pal or similar is a must. Weigh your food and don't try to estimate. GOOD LUCK! Congrats on making the decision to do this

One of the most sensible things I've ever read on here. Do this and you'll be fine.
