Looking for a Second Nature buddy or two

I have just signed up for a 2-week trial of Second Nature. It appealed to me more than Noom, as it is low carb and I have successfully lost weight before on a low carb diet plan. (But I have put back on 2 stone of my 6 stone loss...)
Anyone else doing Second Nature?

I keep looking at it as I really like the look of it, but am I right that it's £50 per month?

cheapskatemum · 22/09/2022 16:08

Hi! I'm on Second Nature and think it's brilliant. I'd be happy to buddy up with you.

Happyasahedgehog · 23/09/2022 09:14

Thank you!
I start on Monday, so I need to go shopping for some healthy foods, like rolled oats, brown rice, sweet potatoes. I'm good at losing weight, less good at dealing with emotional eating and keeping it off though...
Any suggestions for what I should get in stock?

I had a referral code that I found on Mumsnet, so it works out at £35 per month. If you buy the special scales and tracker, it is more expensive, but I have a decent pair of scales and a Fitbit, so don't need them.

I didn't bother buying the special scales & tracker either - same reasons as you. Hope I'm not too late with the advice not to buy lots of sweet potatoes as they have the same carbs as ordinary potatoes, so not low carb. Butternut squash is better from that point of view. There is, however, a loaded sweet potato recipe. I haven't ever made it, so don't know if it's any good or not.

Thank you, I will buy Butternut squash instead, although I'm partial to a sweet potato, I do want to keep my carbs low. I've bought dark Ryvitas, frozen berries, wholegrain oats, eggs, brown rice (but may save that for later stages and use cauli rice instead).

All those things will stand you in good stead. Both the brown rice & cauli rice are useful as Second Nature is low carb, rather than no carb. The 50g of cooked rice which constitutes 1 carb portion looks tiny though! Have your books arrived yet?

Happyasahedgehog · 24/09/2022 22:44

My recipe book arrived today. The food looks tasty. I'm not a breakfast person, too busy in the mornings, but I will give the overnight oats a try. I was also thinking of making porridge in a thermos food flask and taking it to work, so it will be ready to eat when I arrive.

I love all the porridge recipes & making it in a thermos to eat when you get to work is a great plan. I find the spiced coconut porridge kept me fullest longest, but the peanut butter jam oats are also really good. I wasn't so keen on the overnight oats, I found them quite bland. My son's girlfriend loved them though, so you may well too.

I made the baked beans at the weekend. They are such an unsung hero of a recipe: simple & delicious!

sunnyhen · 29/09/2022 22:04

How’s it going ? I’ve signed up for the trial this evening so will spend the weekend getting prepared.
i have a bag of sweet potatoes 🍠😬 so might have to give these away !

cheapskatemum · 02/10/2022 18:38

Hi @sunnyhen! You can eat sweet potatoes, you just need to be aware that they are high in complex carbs. I've just eaten the tofu and cashew nut stir fry. It's delicious and, eaten with bean sprouts in place of noodles or rice, has an insignificant amount of carbs. Which meals do you think you will start off with?

@Happyasahedgehog how are you getting on?
