I've learned the hard way that low-carbing and fasting just slow my already-sluggish metabolism down even more. I find them both very easy as a result - but don't lose weight and feel very low and foggy.

I decided about 3 years ago to stop all thoughts of dieting and just eat healthily. Which I do. But the weight creeps on. I don't like what I see and how I feel. And as an older mum I really want to be healthy and energetic for the DC. And for myself.

So here I am, 5'2", 78kg which puts me in the obese category, asthmatic and finding exercise difficult. I know being hypothyroid means I have to be careful, so I want to lose slowly and avoid making it worse - but I do want to lose.

My plan is 800 cal over 3 meals, 3 days a week - mon/weds/Fri. Normal food the other days, alcohol WE only. Hopefully that will still keep things ticking over rather than shutting down. I also plan to run or yoga 5 days a week.

I'd love to hear experiences and advice from people with hypothyroidism who've managed this - nothing seems to work!

I am not hypothyroid but I'm postmenopausal and have lost 2st. I did it through calorie counting with Myfitnesspal, at quite a small, slow deficit as I didn't want to be too hungry or inflexible. I tried intermittent fasting but it made me very irritable. on fasting days - that may not be the same for you. I think the key is finding whatever diet you can live with long term, since maintenance may not look hugely different.

Fantastic achievement Webbedlife! Small slow deficit must be the right way for me too, I think. I just hope i can keep it up... I don't get irritable at all fasting, or hungry, I slot right into it, but go into hibernation mode and slow right down which means it doesn't work fir me either.
