Quickest way to lose 10lbs

Reagol · 25/08/2022 16:20

Hit me with your tips!

I'm at the very top end of healthy BMI as I've put on half a stone since April. Crisps, wine and cake.

Decided today is the day I start losing the 10lbs, I feel so wobbly!!

I'm going to try intermittent fasting. Will eat two meals, one at 12 noon and then 5pm. No snacks, will cook healthy food from scratch, drinking 2 liters of water a day. I will also spend an hour at the gym every day, a mix of heavy weights and cardio.

Anything else? I want it off ASAP!!

Thanks very much for your post @hellocleveland - and well done on your 12lb loss!

Brilliant, so it's feasible then I could lose my 10lbs in 3/4 weeks if I'm strict with myself. That's given me hope! I'm meeting with a friend in October so I can use that as a goal, and a party in November; it'd be amazing to be a full stone lighter by then.

Though a stone may be too much to lose for my size/frame. And I want to retain my muscle.

The answer is staring you in the face

You gained weight from crisps wine and chocolate did you say?

Then just ditch those and keep eating normal

No need to get into silly and unsustainably restrictive diets

Imo

Don't fuck with your diet if you have a healthy weight. Don't follow the restrictive eating path, the famine or feast mentality, just ditch the snacking and wine

I'm 1lb lighter this morning (must be water) but good to see! 9lbs to go.

I can lose an lb a day when I am really focussed. It's definitely fat. Well done.

FourChimneys · 27/08/2022 07:20

When I wanted to do similar I ate on alternate days only. Quite drastic and I'm not sure I would do it again though.

CeltictigerMum · 27/08/2022 07:31

Definitely calorie counting and logging everything you eat works. Then you can have a little bit of all food groups so you're not lacking in anything. Being more mindful, chewing slower, appreciating the food works wonders. When we were kids it was just three square meals a day, hardly ever had snacks, the odd piece of fruit here and there maybe. People were much slimmer . It's those extra calories from the non- essentials like cakes, biscuits, crisps etc . They are not needed , and easy to find alternatives for.

Reagol · 27/08/2022 07:35

@SimonaRazowska I eat very little in the day usually, with a healthy dinner - but then I've had a stressful 6 months and turned to booze a few nights a week, which leads to snacks, crisps, popcorn, homemade cake - stuff I don't normally eat but DH does!

Then one glass turned into three, one snack turned into two or three and I'm probably a good 6/7lbs heavier than I was.

I agree it would come off eventually once I cut this out but I'm too impatient to wait months to drop the weight, I'm desperate to get it off ASAP so I can feel better!

I've just lost 11.5lbs in 7 weeks doing:

  • Free trial of Noom (switched to MFP after trial ended)
  • Daily weigh in with smart scales (good to see the 0.2lb increments of weight loss, rather than waiting for a whole 1lb)
  • Logged ALL food and exercise (use a FitBit already)
  • Aimed for and mostly achieved a daily calorie deficit of 500 calories

Foodwise, it mostly meant:

  • smaller portions
  • fewer carbs
  • no alcohol except on a couple of special occasions
  • mostly cut out crisps, chocolate, puddings
  • Lots of salad, veg
  • Low fat versions of spreads, cheese, bacon etc

I'm now 10st 3 and am keeping going until I hit 10 stone. I feel so much better than I have for a long time - more energy/ sleeping better etc.

Go fo it OP!
Honestly, I think it's much easier in summer when having a salad and a diet cold drink feel OK. When autumn winter comes we'll be craving those carbs and creamy coffee!

I will also spend an hour at the gym every day, a mix of heavy weights and cardio.

I would also say be careful setting goals which turn out to be unrealistic. I don't know how 'normal' going to the gym every day is for you, but if it's not, then you'll probably start off with enthusiasm but quickly lose it?

Incremental changes which mean you don't feel you're having to fundamentally change your life are best.
I agree with the poster who said it's 80% calories and 20% exercise!

Reagol · 27/08/2022 12:05

Thanks @Whippet 😊

Sounds like you've worked so hard to get where you are, that's brilliant!

Gym wise 3 or 4 times a week is usual for me; I usually run 20km a week too. Longer if I train for a race but I've got a muscle niggle atm so cross training with the bike.

God yes it really is 80% diet though, when I lost 6 stone (a decade ago now) I wasn't exercising at all. It was all diet and calories! Changed everything (just healthy eating) and luckily never regained it.

Until this past few months! Totally my own fault... pure greed...but I definitely don't want bad habits creeping back in when I've worked so hard to keep slimmer for over a decade.

Hopefully this fasting and upping exercise for a few weeks will shift this half stone or so...I'm short so every lb shows.

Don't cut out the carbs, for one thing it will give you smelly breath but just reduce them. It's pretty easy for most of us to find areas where carbs can be reduced. Of course, it another thing to actually do i!

Dashel · 28/08/2022 06:58

If you are doing a lot of exercise then some of that fat will get turned into muscle so I would also think about taking photos and measurements.

FlowerArranger · 28/08/2022 07:18

I developed some bad dietary habits during the pandemic and consequently found myself at the upper end of a healthy BMI, though luckily I had started to work our with weights during this time. Still, I wanted to get back to my normal weight. I have just lost 10 lb in 7 weeks through:-

Intermittent fasting
Eating only 1200 calories a day
No UPF, sugar or refined carbs
Eating mostly lean protein + lots of vegetables
Working out 60-90 minutes most days.

I'm actually not too bothered about losing the weight quickly as I want to build muscle. I am doing one of Caroline Girvan's workouts every day (currently Epic 3), plus some HIIT and core/abs work. I've dropped at least one dress size and feel very lean and toned. I think weight training is brilliant and Caroline is the best online trainer I've come across.

HelloBunny · 28/08/2022 07:29

Sounds to me like your plan will work. It’s not very much food. Going to bed hungry will lead to weight loss. Ditching the booze & snacks is a good idea,, to kickstart your diet.

TopGolfer · 25/08/2022 19:09

Jason Vale’s lose 7lb in 7 days is good if you like juicing.

It's physically impossible to lose 7 lb of fat in 7 days.

1lb of fat = 3500 calories. Average woman needs 2000 calories, you'd have to burn 1500 calories through exercise if not more, each day. Unless you're an athlete it won't happen.

You will lose water weight and muscle mass though, leaving you hungry, flabbier, and with no sustainable fat loss.

It didn’t leave me feeling like that, I felt full of energy, lighter, more positive, cleaner, all sugar and junk cravings gone, no more reliance on my 11 0’Clock tea or my 4 o’clock snack etc.
I recommend watching Super Juice Me, it’s available for free on You Tube, it’s truly incredible.

Right maybe you felt good but it doesn't change the fact that you didn't lose 7lbs of fat and that most of it was water weight instead, therefore is not actually a weightloss method at all, it's just a fad.

TopGolfer · 31/08/2022 11:06

I am no Olympic athlete but did hike, swim, do a rebounding and yoga class each day.

FlowerArranger · 31/08/2022 16:44

The easiest way to lose weight is to cut out all UPF, sugar and refined carbs (including all alcohol!).

  1. Only eat 'real' foods - mostly lean protein and LOTS of vegetables, plus healthy fats (EVOO) and legumes (lentils, chickpeas etc) in moderation.
Given sensible food choices, it's perfectly possible to not feel hungry on 1200-1400 calories a day.
  1. After a week or so, the cravings for sugar and carbs will be all but gone.
Exercise won't burn many calories, but helps increase energy, perception of well-being and motivation.

But all this requires a change in mindset and lifestyle. It's not a quick fix but a different, more healthy way of living.

Reagol · 01/09/2022 16:29

It really is just a quick fix I'm needing! Luckily I lost the majority of my weight years ago.

So just to update, I did the 18:6 fast for a week. No booze or snacks, exercised every day, and I'm weighing 2.6lbs lighter now. Jeans are definitely a little comfier.

I'm not going to continue with 18:6 because I reallllly struggled with energy at work (very active job, 8 hour shifts) but I am definitely going to continue with not eating after 5pm to eliminate booze which leads to the snacks.

Hoping the remaining lbs will take maybe 6 weeks...

Start weight: 123.8lbs
Current weight: 121.2lbs
Goal weight: 110-112 lbs

No it won't. This is impossible, adipose tissue does not turn into muscle.

12 days later, current weight 120.8

Loss: 3lbs
