Just seen this online.
Has anyone had any success with it?
I can’t seem to find a definitive answer on how much it costs too.

Yes, I thought it was quite good and I lost about 10kg over 3 or 4 months. The style was annoyingly twee and American, but the advice was solidly research backed. However, you can do the food logging part free on MyFitnessPal.

Noom price seems to be somewhat negotiable - if you sign up and then cancel you can get a better deal I believe.

@Phineyj

If it's not too rude, did you manage to keep it off easily?

Noom seem to market themselves on changing they way you think about food so wondering if that really comes across and makes a difference? (Appreciate it will depend on the dieter a lot too!)

I tried it and it didn’t work for me. I liked the food logging part, but there seemed to be never ending lessons that would pop up, I’d re do ones I’d already done and then get told I was still however many away from the next level… I think gamification is taking over lots of things and I found it made it unnecessarily complicated. It does help you look at things in a different way, but it’s nothing you don’t really know already.

if you do sign up be careful that they don’t set you up for a recurring payment. I think I signed up for 6 months but then ended up with a years subscription coming out of my account, which was over £100. They did refund it, and have since been emailing me to offer me money off but it’s just not for me.

I tried the cheap 14 day trial, but found it a faff. Was thinking about food more often. Not for me.

I lost a stone in just over a month with Noom last December. I've kept it off. Once I had completed all the daily lessons I just cancelled and moved to MFP. The biggest thing that I've taken away from Noom is the benefit of weighing myself daily. I was initially horrified at the thought, having been used to weekly weigh-ins. But that just resulted in treat days just after the weigh-in day, and starving myself the day before. Weighing myself daily has taken away any sense of fear of the scales and the binge/starve cycle. It's also stopped the weight creping back on without me noticing.

Like others have said, it can be a bit twee and clearly developed initially for an American audience, but having daily reading/lessons to complete appealed to my nature.

Do the free trial, then cancel and they will offer you a cheaper rate.

I kept about half of it off. However, 2021-2 was a stressful period for me and it's crept up again.

It did give me insight into how and why I overeat and some useful strategies.

One thing I learnt was that serious weight loss takes time and energy - you can't easily do it if you've a lot else on.

LotsOf · 08/08/2022 12:16

Two weeks in. Yes, I also got into the daily weighing part. Something I always refused in the past. A real surprise they managed to persuade me! But what they said made sense. Also, saw more clearly why I overeat. Some of their ideas are simple but also something of a revelation. It’s got a chilled ‘you can do this, ‘no sweat’ vibe. Progress not perfection. The app is very easy to use I found, and I hate faffing with technology. I can see myself doing this for the next 6 months, to my actual target. Something I’ve never really envisioned before.

So overall it’s a recommendation.

With Noom what I didn't like was a lot of measurements were in cups - I CBA converting into English measurements.

Also, my advisor was never around when I was around - probably due to time differences in USA/UK time.

Had they sorted both the above out I'd probably have subscribed and not cancelled.

I did, it was alright and I lost weight by weighting myself daily and logging my food (which made me more conscious about my choices). Wasn't 100% convinced about the daily lessons, but I guess it contributed to staying on the ball.

Re pricing, yes I think the way to do it is to sign up / do the trial and then give it some time before you actually commit, it drops more and more the longer you wait (they will continue to email / pester you).

As for keeping the weight down...I did initially, now I put some weight back on. What I find quite hilarious though is that Noom started to email me again about one year after I finished my initial weight loss with the app, asking me if I want to come back. Looks like they are not as convinced as they claim that people will manage to keep their weight down....I was very tempted to reply and query why they think there'd be a need for me to come back after I successfully reached my target weight with Noom 😂

I really liked the concept but as with a PP my advisor was never contactable.

They really annoyed me with the wording of their promotions which said 50% off but was only off a smaller portion of the time period. It disappointed me. Their admin of changing details on my account was also a pain so I didn't renew my subscription for those reasons.

I really liked the daily tips and lessons and it did help my mindset of fairly disordered eating.

Tip: you can keep using the food diary and water intake counter after your free trial or if you cancel.
